It's what Sundays are for...
« on: February 15, 2015, 05:39:05 PM »
With a few hours to spare and two filthy cars on the drive I decided today should be a wash and polish occasion.  The VW got a quick once over then it was taken supermarket shopping by the good lady, leaving me to play with the Abarth. Decided I'd take a few snaps just to prove to Bertie he's not the only one who can get a decent shine on his 595; plus this one has pedigree, winning at MITCAR in 2014.  So, a bucket of soapy water, a couple of sponges and a cup of coffee is always a good place to start...

Product used today include: AutoGlym shampoo; Renovo fabric roof cleaner; AutoGlym super resin polish; Dr Beasley's finishing wax; AutoGlym tyre dressing; a couple of Tetley teabags and a little Carte Noir coffee. Hope you like to final result.  It's pleasing to get the worst of winter off the car. A

Spent my Sunday driving it over the Brecon mountains. Dry empty roads, now that's what Sundays are for :)

Not quite as reflective as mine though ;)

Got some catching up to do...

<<<<RETRO DETAILING ALERT>>>>

Decided to have a go at a few stone chips on the bonnet; always a problem with a black car  >:( ... was looking at buying a touch-up pen however previous attempts at getting a quality finish on other cars never satisfies... so, decided on a bottle of Turtle Wax coloured polish and a chip stick.  Not used this since owning a 106GTi many years ago...  After an hour of work the bonnet looks near perfect.  Wish i'd taken 'before' and 'after' pics to prove it.  label says the wax will last up to 25 washes.  Highly recommended.

Did I mention the car is sold? Forum members have missed a trick not grabbing this one; the new owner is hoping to collect it at Easter.  Now, where is my new car?? Oh, and its white, not black  ;)

Sunshine!! Detailing day.  Let me start by saying that I accept a brand new car has a head start when it comes to detailing. The paint is still factory fresh. However before collecting 'Lucca' we asked Motorvogue not to polish it and, based on the comments from AOC, declined a 'professional' Williams F1 supplied finish.

Jen and I spent 5 hours today. OK so I stole 45 mins to wash my BMW as it was filthy, but the rest of it was spent washing, polishing and drinking lots of tea. The Podium blue already looked good (see Your Abarth) but needed some layers, and after a run to Chelsford in the rain on D1 it was already pretty dirty.  So, today I have added:

Autoglym wash/wax
Dr Beasley's Plasma Coat (3 sample pots is sufficient to cover a 595C)
Dr Beasley's caranuba wax
Dr Beasley's finishing mist
Dr Beasley's alloy wheel sealer
Glass polish

Today's wash and wax has been brought to you by the letters A and J and the number 5, and a big hand from Bear's Wax Factory. Introduced to Dr Beasley's US products after being given some samples at MITCAR '14 and it's great stuff.

I'll add some better pics of the black brake callipers another time, without the rusting on the discs. Specifying these options held up our car whilst Abrath UK and Italy argued their availability. Has anyone else had them on their car?  Anyway, hope you like the finished look... More will follow in the coming weeks. And yes Paul, the fairy lights are fitted.

Apologies if thumbnails show upside down; no idea why (tried all sorts) and can confirm they flip when you open them.   A

I think Fish you've got it. We're definitely antipodean. Perhaps I could start a Southern Hemisphere AOC team

Apparently Saturday's can be too. Just given it the 'wheels off' treatment in prep for tomorrow's trip down to Brands Hatch. No pictures; you'll have to take my word for it!

Just thought I'd add a little comment here to remind Abarthisti that the Podium Blue Turismo is available to buy. More detail is within the For Sale area. Sad day but has to go to allow space (and funds) for a new family member...

Edited, adding a picture as it’s now Sunday. Gutted at the wet roads for a drive to Bicester Sunday scramble. Oh well, an excuse for another wash...
