Side Skirt Removal
« on: April 15, 2015, 10:08:36 AM »
Does anyone know how to remove the side skirts on the AGP? One of the side skirts has come away from the body and got some special tape to try out.

Nice, so just a bit of fishing wire and it should pop straight off then. Didn't want to start forcing it off if it was screwed down at some point.

Thanks for the help.

Do not take my word on that!
But I was under the illusion they were stuck on with adhesive, could easily be wrong though...

For bodywork like this I don't agree with it, they should be bolted on  ::)

From what I can see on the outside it's stuck on (it's starting to come away near the rear wheel arch).

Problem is with the new essesse springs I can see under the car to check for bolts  :o

Think I'll have to crack out the jack this weekend :D

Would expect they can be removed completely, cleaned underneath then adhesive applied and re-stick the skirts to the car!  8)

there's a row of bolts, 4 or 5 each side, underneath. the glue is a thin strip on the top edge and can be pulled away.

on mine the glue had parted from the plastic but was still firmly stuck to the car. you can get a tool called a caramel wheel which goes in a drill and will remove the glue from the bodywork. the wheel is harder than the glue but softer than the paint, it wears away as it removes the glue whilst leaving the paint undamaged

This should be stickied as a main topic and you should right a step by step guide up Skevy/Lloyd.

Could be a handy guide to have in the future for us Evo/Grande owners!  ;)

Cheers Lloyd, take it you can pick something like that up from Screw Fix?

What did you use to reapply? I've got some special tape from work that should so the trick. It's used in bridge construction so should hold some side skirts on  ;D

I put new ones on but added a bead of tiger seal to help the factory applied stuff. the mouldings seem to have a twist in them which I guess is why they tend to come unstuck. They will need supporting well overnight whilst the glue sets. I got the caramel wheel from ebay but screwfix might have them.

Putting it back on I put the bolts in first leaving the skirt hanging at the outer edge then applied the glue and lifted the moulding into position, the bolts make sure it pivots up into the right place so the glue grabs once without getting messy trying to adjust it.
