Tyre Shine Advice
« on: March 28, 2015, 06:09:19 PM »
Hi all,

I know this is a bit tedious issue, but I'm looking for the best tyre shine and the best way to apply it.

I'm a bit cautious about the spray bottles that say you can spray directly onto the type in case it get all over the alloy and bodywork.

Thanks in advance,

Red Rock 500C  :)

Blackfire tyre gel(gloss)
Wolf chemical tyre/trim gel(gloss)
Zaino Z-16 (Semi satin)
Gtechniq T1
Finishkare tyre dressing

Thats a few to try out, megs endurance tyre gel is my current and its pretty good, bit greasy but leaves a nice shine. Never seems to dry though and durability is hit and miss at times, sometimes rain can take it off and other times it doesnt, bit weird!

Hi mate.

Various products out there but ive used (and its very popular)meguiars gel ...But now ive moved onto zaino tyre stuff(cant remember the name but www.cleanyourcar.co.uk stock it.

Meg gel
Pros - A bottle will last you ages (a year for me)
Cons - Greasy and gloopy and if you dont dry the excsess off it "slings" and goes all over the side of your car when you drive off. (I was very annoyedwhen i spend all day polishing my car for bristol show just to find that i had black rubbish all over the side when i drove up the next morning).

Finish - Very shiney if thats your thing.I liked it at 1st but then i went off it.

Now ive moved onto zaino.

Pros - few blobs go a long way.
Watery not greasy spreads easy

finish - a nice satin finish or a slightly shinier finish  with a 2nd coat.
cons : i aint found any really. Nice product and doesnt seem to sling.

I would get a shoe shiner or a sponger to apply any of these products.I bought a shoe shiner for like 80p from asda and it comes with a holder so you dont get your hands dirty when you apply the dressings.

Infact if you can remind me mate il bring some on the 5th and i can apply it on your wheels so you can see the finish you get with zaino.

Never had an issue with the megs gel if you apply it correctly.
A small blob does half a wheel, give it a good work in with the sponge and it shouldn't cause any sling. Can even rub afterwards with a cloth but I haven't had to do this if you rub it in well with the sponge. Thats a good idea with the shoe shiner, going to try that out! :)

Will say it is very shiny and its not to everyones taste although personally I like it, just seems heavy rain can sometimes remove it easily if the tyre is cleaned well before application. Looking to try a satin finish gel next that alloys a 2nd coat if needed for extra gloss.

I think the idea of the pad is a great one, I'll start my search by looking in halfords later on but I'll also have a look online.

Thanks

You can you a plain sponge and just cut it up, used it 2 or 3 times then bin it. Get about 8 little foam squares to apply it doing it, only reason I do is I have sponges for washing the car I don't use ;)
