Parking sensors
« on: February 25, 2020, 08:42:20 AM »
Anyone know if you can retrofit rear parking sensors to a 124 Spider?
My wife will be driving the car more in future but would like these installed as she's used to them in her old car.  I'll give the dealer a ring, just wondered if anyone had experience and/or knowledge.

The dealer has told me it can't be done as the wiring is not set up for it.  The tech's advice was to get one of the aftermarket guys who will come and fit for you to do it - not sure about that as unless they are familiar with the car (which they won't be), they won't know where to drill holes in the bumper and I don't want any 'trial' attempts that meet metal 5mm in!
So, I've ordered a set of good flush mount sensors that simply work off the feed to the reversing light.  Now - anyone know how the rear bumper comes off?

I bought my spider in 2017 and the dealer offered to fit them for £400. Assumed they would know what they were doing, didn't bother though.

As per the other post, I now have Stu’s camera installed, which is excellent and leaves a nice clean bumper.

Aren't reversing cameras law on new cars in the US? Surely all the wiring should already be there?

I'm not in the US, I'm in the UK.  No wiring in place prior to doing the retrofit.

I'm in the UK  too, just thought they might share the same loom. Clearly not then.
