Naming cars...yay or nay?
« on: February 09, 2018, 10:20:40 AM »
Morning all,

Very random...I've been part of a heated discussion between friends regarding naming your car and/or referring to it as he or she (maybe even something else in this day and age!) I'm all for it - my car is named Carlo and I feel like it adds something to the connection between owner and car. Some 'friends' tell me that I'm being ridiculous as 'it's just a car' - pah!

Opinions? ;D

Some cars get named, some don't,  ours kind of find their own name.

Our Abarths (we're on the 3rd one) all called Chopper, therefore, we're on Chopper III

Its hard to describe why its called Chopper, but it has nothing to do with cutting people up, it was a photo of a dog called Chopper that was stolen along with the the van, it was the expression on his face was exactly how we felt when our first 500, a Twin-Air, that was written off by someone in a Toyota Auris pulling out, they end up on their side. We had a face full of airbag, but otherwise ok, so we got Chopper I.

We're not mad, but do have an Olive tree called Denis! :D

We always name our cars.
On our 3rd Abarth, so far it has been Piccolo Diavalo, Diavalo Due and now Tirzo Diavalo.

Bit of a theme building.

We had a 500 sport before hand which was called Noddy!

When I changed our 500 for current 595 Turismo 'semi auto', swmbo immediately 'christened' it 'Ellie' - the reg. begins 'LL 1(6).  At least it helps me remember the reg. if I get stopped!!  So far so good - not needed!!

The reg is often a good way to go. Bit harder on my Abarth, but my previous car had the reg SH61 UCY - literally spells Lucy. Got very tired of getting out at petrol stations and having blokes shout ‘you don’t look like a Lucy haha’ at me. You’d be amazed how many times this actually happened.

Mine's called Taz after Tazio Nuvolari, who raced successfully for Abarth, and for Taz the Tasmanian Devil. The pint sized cartoon character who looked innocuous but suddenly switched into a rapid ball of fury that surprises everyone. Just like our cars!

If  a man can wear sandles with socks in a public  place then I see no issues with a person having a name for a  car.  Also mines named Charmander with a mascot  which rides Shotgun.

No man can wear sandals and socks. That's breaking every law there is. 😂
