First service
« on: September 07, 2017, 03:40:27 PM »

Hi everyone, has anyone had a price for a first service on a 595 competizione.
Just been told £190 from Research Nuneaton. Do you think thats to much.
       thanks. Alan.

Hard question really...

First service is nothing more than an oil and filter change.

The parts you can buy genuine for under £60 but your effectively paying for the Abarth service stamp in your history.

Your best option is to find a trusted specialist or garage that is VAT registered and use the genuine parts to keep the warranty all okay (and keep parts receipts).

You could easily have the same level of service, if not more so, for under £100. But as I said, you won't get the Abarth stamp in your history.  :)

Check your handbook regarding service schedules.....Your first Service includes more than just an oil and filter change, checks and inspections are also included. as are any fluid level top ups.  Is it worth the extra cost and dealer stamp for a full check up...........YOUR CHOICE ?

It seems strange to me to spend £1000's on a new car and scrimp on its first service,

To me its a no brainer, mine will have an Abarth stamp

Have to agree with Montybaber on this ........
Why invest in a new car car then consider looking after it on the cheap.......(  no offence meant )  but it does seem ridiculous .
If you have a full 1st service carried out as per the handbook it makes sense to go via dealership.

I don't think its about scrimping - more about being charged a silly astronomical cost for the sum of parts & at the most an hour of labour.

My experience of dealership servicing is pretty jaded to say the least and made clearer to me when i bought my car. It wasn't brand new but had all the right dealer stamps for 1st service, 2nd service & updates....blablabla. Was the pollen filter changed even once during the 3 years of dealer service treatment? I can say definitely not, i changed the filter myself & believe me it was at least 3 years old! Getting to the pollen filter on these cars is harder than changing oil & filter put together (my 2010 car - maybe they've made it easier with the newer models but i seriously doubt it)!

Your warranty is not invalidated if you use genuine parts & serviced at a garage you trust, the Abarth dealer stamp is a lovely logo but it is no guarantee that said works have been carried out correctly.

Just my half pence opinion  :)

If you trade in, the manufactures/dealers give you a better deal if it has dealer stamps and if there is a problem even after the warranty expired, you're less likely to get a positive response.

Its not an Abarth/FIAT Group thing, they're all like it.

Its a judgement call.

Sorry but any garage worth its salt do these checks. It's called a service, which includes these checks/inspections.

Fish i agree with what your saying.........however my point is ref the first reply to the original question that states the first service is nothing more than a Oil and Filter change, which is incorrect.   My point is  if you ask for a oil and filter change, thats what you get .....if you ask for a 1st service then you get a service, just making a point in being careful what you ask for.

We have used the provision of free / included services as part of our negotiation when buying the new cars of late, currently have the first 3 services included by the dealer who was happy to go with the deal.
It does seem difficult though to actually check what has been done, as CJ states, if the pollen filter has not been changed, how would I know without undertaking the service again for myself?

In reply to scrimping and being cheap, this is my fourth abarth in 4 years, do not mind paying, do not like being ripped off.

Having always serviced my own cars, I knew it'd be painful paying dealer prices for a service. My wife had a 14 FIAT 500 1.2 Pop from new and had a couple of services which didn't hurt too much. We've now got a 66 plate Abarth 595 with 7500 miles on it ready for it's first service. Sturgess in Leicester quoted £145 for oil and oil filter change with the usual visual mechanical inspection (VMI) along with a plug in to the ECU to see if it need an update.....I asked him to sharpen his pencil and they came back with £130 which I'm relatively "happy" with. I have a good relationship with Sturgess and would recommend them :)

I checked my local branches and a couple of specialists for prices and around London they all came back as £160.

Hi  I have just taken out a service plan with the garage I bought mine from and the first service is £139.74 . Then 2nd £282.91 and 3rd £139.74.  So no nasty surprises in the future and this also includes the first MOT.
