Paint work
« on: February 25, 2015, 08:33:04 PM »
Just a quick question my car has layers of wax on and paint sealant etc.

For the summer Id like to strip it all back the basically having no wax or anything on.

Also the previous owner or garage where I got it from has used some
Sort of wax on the windscreen and its horrible smears like hell.

Does anybody have and ideas on how to get all the wax off the paintwork and windscreen?

thanks

Step 1: Wash the whole car as best you can.
Step 2: Use an iron fallout remove and tar remover on the whole car, leave for 5-10 mins then rinse.
Step 3: Clay the whole car, including the glass - this should remove what ever is on the windscreen.
Step 4: Rinse and dry the car.
Step 5: Polish the whole car, including the glass (you can get dedicated glass polish for this)
Step 6: Use something like CarPro Eraser, which is IPA - this removes any last protection or any polishing oils, and leaves you with perfectly clean paint.
Step 7: Apply LSP of your choice.

Also - see this thread for a detailed walk through and recommended products :)

Nope, you want to polish then remove any of the polishing oils - a perfectly clean paint surface is what you want for applying a sealant or wax :)

Correct, you can buy Swissvax panel prep or carbon collective panel prep, they all do the same thing. It's just alcohol diluted with water.

Pre wax cleanser and panel wipe are slightly different things :)

If you're not going to polish your car, you can just bang down a pre wax cleaner that has some cut in it, but also lays down an oil based glossy layer, which the wax adheres too.

Panel wipe is used if youve used polishing compounds. Its especially useful if youre applying a sealant as they dont bond well to oily surfaces.

So it all depends on what you're doing :)

Yes your right there, I guess both links are fine to use before tough coat, then add wax top up! *thumbs up*
