Campvolo Grey, Sealant or Wax?
« on: February 23, 2015, 04:22:41 PM »
What would people suggest on the Campvolo grey paintwork, It isn't exactly the shiniest paint finish in the world so not sure a wax will really help it much, at least with a sealant it will likely offer more protection...?

What's everyone thoughts, thinking AF Tough Prep then AF Tough coat, the other option for a wax finish is AF tripple polish then a AF temptation wax or possibly a Turtle wax/Collinite wax 456.

Why don't you go for tough prep and power seal! Sealant is just a synthetic protection, wax is natural both do same job its down to preference. I emailed AF about same thing. Synthetic is probably more practical in terms of longer lasting protection, wax may not last as long but may have better aesthetic properties.

I personally went for tough coat as a base and then top up with illusion wax.

Going with a sealant then going over it with a wax... do you not lose the beading properties and the less sticky finish the sealant produces though, so for a little shines but it makes it less effective..?  ???

Bert what is the shine like on the tough prep and tough coat?

Its good on lightly coloured cars :)

And its really easy to use, gives good sheeting and does last a while if you put 2 or 3 layers on :)

Good wax shouldnt be sticky at all, it should just give a nice smooth feel to the paint and good beading!

Dimmy how do you find Illusion?

I think that will be my next buy!

Layer of Desire and Layer of Illusion, then probably 2 layers of Illusion for Waxstock!

Ideally anything that lasts around 3 months will suit me perfectly as I enjoy applying it, can't help but lean towards a nice thick wax though  ::)

Still have the armour all to use for now, definatly want to try some of Auto Finesse's sealants/wax's though, slowly getting my arsenal of detailing products together through trial and error and looking out to trying the waxybox XL whatever it comes with!  8)

Maybe try CG White Wax then, clean and shiny have it on offer atm :)

If you buy something from auto finesse you can always ask for a sample pot of one of their waxes :)

I've got some desire and some Mint rims, but I don't think you'd really benefit from desire on a light car!

I think essence is their all rounder wax for any coloir :)

Go to auto finesse website and check out each wax, each one has different properties, for colour types, paint types etc. That's what I done, I chose illusion because I have a light coloured car with metallic paint so will make it sparkle!

Check out this guide http://www.autofinesse.co.uk/carnauba-wax/

Synthetic sealants will have a mirror like finish, but remember the key to good paint work is down to polishing!

Does it not get annoying having to top it up every 2/3 months?

Ideally I want something that I top up every 3ish months to maintain a good shine! Applying the polish then wax is the highlight of the car detail for me oddly enough! How long would tough coat last guys? 6 months roughly?

Website says 3-6 months, http://shop.autofinesse.co.uk/tough-coat-250ml

Detailing comes down to preference and what you like and comfortable using, did u read the earlier guide I posted? Maybe try soul wax as its a light coloured car. Is the paint metallic?

Have you looked at swissvax waxe? They are meant to be really good, again you have to look at the different waxes as each has different properties. I emailed them and asked for their brochure gives guide on detailing and how to use their products etc.

If I chose that colour id probably go with tough prep and power seal. Then I can just too up with tough coat on each maintenance wash.

Power seal will give you a glossy finish and 6-12 months protection. You can add wax if you want.

Dimmy, it power seal applied more like a wax being thicker as I imagine the Tough coat is more of watery clear substance being a spray?

I prefer products that are a tad thicker, like a cream or paste so I can see clearly where it's been applied  :)
