Oil change?
« on: January 06, 2017, 11:08:26 PM »
I like to do an early oil change in new engines - but the sites I usually buy from don't have any info regarding the 1.4 multi-air, as far as I can tell.  What oil do these take, and any ideas what filter?  5W40 full synthetic?

Thanks Bertie, excellent.  When I rebuild an engine I always like to change the filter after the cam break-in and then oil and filter at around 1000 miles, so I reasoned that it won't do any harm to do an oil change on the Abarth at 1000 miles or thereabouts.  Seeing as it hasn't moved since the Bicester weekend, I'll do it when the oil arrives.  Must use it more!

Use the 10 50 abarth Selinia, Pretty much the same stuff just a bit more tolerant of high temps.

Nice easy car to do - filter can be reached more easily than the transverse-mounted cars, from what I can see.  No pipes to disconnect, it will come out through the top with a bit of fiddling.

As above, get the 10w50 oil...

Main dealer can supply it, or you can buy it from a few other places on google and on eBay too.

Your call, but the 10w50 copes with heat a lot better.

What does the handbook state for the 124 oil wise?

Well, yes - my call, and my warranty, for the time being.  If the dealer does an oil analysis in the event of a claim, they won't pay out if the incorrect grade is in there.  Been there, found out the hard way...
