Autoglym Wheel cleaner (Not Custom!)
« on: February 18, 2015, 01:32:17 PM »
I ordered the wrong type of wheel cleaner and have found out this one has some acid in it for wheel cleaning, spent £14 on it so would rather use it up before moving onto Bilt Hamber wheel cleaner which is Ph neutral.

Can anyone confirm whether it will be safe to use this up on my alloys (Esseesse Titanium) and won't damage it for however long it lasts or should I just bite the bullet and purchase another wheel cleaner....  ::)

I personally wouldn't touch the Titanium Esseesse wheels with it..  The finish is notoriously weak at best, I personally wouldn't feel safe using it.

If you do use it I would strongly suggest rinsing lots, and maybe having a quick wash over with a pH neutral wash after to be doubly sure :)

Stuff it... will use up on the sisters/dads car and get the bilt hamber for my own, typical me rushing into buying products instead of looking around, assumed all wheel cleaners were the same lol  ::)

Dont bother.its only really good if your wheels are absolutley caked and need deep cleaning.no good for regular use.

Custom wheel cleaner is the safe one from autoglym.very good but gets pricey.i moved to bilberry wheel cleaner and lasts ages as i can dilute it.

I wouldn't use the acid stuff either, I mean to be fair you'll be ok using it but not prolonged use

I would use a wheel sealant, like g techniq or carbon collective. Deep clean and then apply

Then you wouldn't even need a wheel cleaner really, worth the money

Second that, clean and de contaminate your wheels then apply a coat of platinum wheels from carbon collective

Its super easy to use and your wheels will be a doddle clean from then on

I do have armour all on my wheels currently, was only planning to use a cleaner once the sealant stopped beading to give the wheels a good clean before applying another coat! Might try Bilberry instead then but like i said, wont be used everytime only once my sealant stops working so likely once a month possibly depending on what wheel sealer i decide on.

I'll be taking the wheels off my A500 to fit mudflaps and upgrade the light bulbs. That would seem like an ideal time to clean and protect the wheels.
As I'm brand new to Abarth ownership  and detailing, and Taz has only 300 miles on the clock, (old school shampoo and chamois man!), can someone advise me on exactly what I'm going to need to get and how to best use it.

Thanks

Nigel

I would try what they are suggesting Taz. I believe you use an Iron out product on the wheels to remove any embedded dirt, such as Bilt Hamber or auto finesse has one then you would clean them normally and apply the wax with a pad much like on your paintwork, allow to haze and buff off. Looked into it and the one suggested previous, the carbon collective seems very good a fairly durable!

Many thanks. Looks like another shoppng list is going to be set up! I've already got the Team Heko wind deflectors on my ebay watch list. Time to start adding the detailing materials!

Obviously dry the wheels as well before applying the wax, basically the same as applying polish/wax to your paintwork! :) Haha thats possibly my next purchase for my car as well! ;)

It just seems obvious to me that as I'm fortunate enough to have bought a brand new car, to look after it before the wheels get contaminated.

Certainly Taz, you may not even need to do the Iron remover step as the car is so new, possibly just a good clean with shampoo and a brush/mitt to get off any stubborn bits of grime.

I'll probably get the iron remover anyway. SWMBO is making comments about our Skoda Octavia Scout needing some of the love and attention I'm lavishing on Taz!
