Does anyone know of or can recommend a car polishing machine which is around £50. Obviously the ridiculously expensive ones will be great but surely there are much cheaper alternatives which will do a good job. I'd even have second hand to be honest.

Go for a DA - Dual action
It rotates around 2 points instead of orbiting, so is a lot safer and easier to use for beginners.
50 quid is a big ask, your bet bet is to go with this;

With our 10% off itl be 76 for a brand new one with a bag

That doesn't seem to bad value wise. Does that come with the polishing pads? Figured it would be so much easier to polish and wax with a machine than hand.

No, you buy the pads based on what you want to do / achieve from polishing.
Chemical Guys Hex logic pads are always a good bet
Id stick to applying wax by hand, its really difficult to do a good job of it using a DA.
