Wash & Polish
« on: February 10, 2015, 11:29:07 AM »
Probably not up to the standards of most on here but gave the car a bit of a wash and polish. Was going to wax but was nakered so will save that for next time when the weather is a bit nicer :).

Also going to try the G3 clay mitt on it next time around see what they are like.

Love them in red! I am going to try Claying, T-cut polish and wax my car when the weather gets better then keep wax protection on it every few months to keep that shine locked in ;)

With regards to lubricant, don't you just spray some water on?

Well from what i can gather you can use shampoo and water so that the results are better as the shampoo will bring the dirt out whilst using the mitt. Or you can spray a detailing lubricant on so that the surface is ready to rub your clay mitt over. as long as the surface is wet though cant see it being a problem but I'm hardly the expert I've never used one yet so don't take my word for it :)

Looking good, what polish did you go for?

With the mitt, use a shampoo solution or a dedicated lubricant - water alone wont give enough lubrication and you will end up marring your paintwork!

Ive heard good things about the G3 clay mit, thinking of using it on a new car detail il be doing in the summer!

When you use it, you're going to remove any protection on your paint, and inevitably scratch or marr your paintwork in some areas, so youl want to polish it again and then use a LSP.

Used AutoGlym Super Resin Polish on it. When you use clay does it remove all of the wax already on it? As it would then make it difficult to build the wash layers up for a better shine.

Why will it scratch the paintwork? and what is LSP? Sorry for all the questions.

Yes claying will remove absolutely everything from your paintwork, and will leave you with a completely bare surface.

LSP is short for Last Step Protection - usually a wax or sealant.

If you are claying, first you want to use an iron fallout remover to get as much iron out as possible, and then use something to remove any organic contaminates (tree sap, tar spots) etc.

This then means there is less for the clay or clay mitt to pick up.

Just the clay or clay mitt rubbing on the paint will inflict very very minor marring or tiny scratches, but nothing some hand polishing cant remove - this is because its pulling contaminates from the paint - they are then going to be rubbed back into the paint, no matter how much you fold your clay or rinse the mitt.

Hope this helps :)

Oh right, not sure whether its such a good idea now then. If the car is washed well then is the iron remover not that necessary. Trying to keep costs down n cleaning products but it can become endless with the amount of products on the market.

I was going to go with the following but claying seems to remove all the past hard work haha:

Wash down (shampoo)
g3 clay mitt
Autoglym super resin polish
wax

K&N Induction Kit

Iron and tar remover are really useful if your paintwork has a lot of contamination present - if it feels really rough then Id say yes its necessary - the fallout remove will dissolve any iron dust embedded in the paintwork.

No amount of washing will remove it im afraid :(

The clay will pick it up - but its then going to be run all over your car - so will scratch and marr!

Iron fall out remove is also perfect for deep cleaning wheels, if youve never used it your wheels will go purple!

So yes, claying removes all your protection!
