Top mounts
« on: August 14, 2015, 10:23:06 AM »
Hi Guys,

I have what appears to be a small knocking from the drivers side front, and from previous GP's it could be the top mounts?

Only notice when I'm setting off most times, never when actually on the move?

If it is top mounts... anyone have suggestions on replacements and if they are easy enough to do or just get a garage to sort (by garage I have found an Italian Specialist on Bristol)?

Thanks!

Hello Edd

It does sound like your top mounts need replacing, should be able to get hold of them through eBay or shop4parts even Amazon for around 20-40 quid for a pair. You need to replace each side.

Easy enough to replace if you know what you're doing!  :D
A garage could sort it out within an hour i reckon.

Ah the dreaded top mounts... On my last two Punto's I've had 4 sets replaced on the front, and one set of rears ;D

They are about £35 a side from Fiat. Make sure they order the latest version, destined for the EVO as they are a far better three piece design.

Expect to be charged for between 1.5 and 2 hours labour...  All in shouldn't cost more than £200-£250.

There is an Italian company that has developed an aftermarket uniball tip mount system but you won't get change from £400 minus fitting, and they don't come with a warranty.

Let us know how it goes!

Yes the dreaded top mounts!  :-\

I will update everyone on my find and see what's what!

Funnily enough, it's not done it for a day or two....

I think mine are on the way out too in the evo, only get a knock when the road is uneven / pot hole. :-(

After a bit a research (still ongoing ;))

Has anyone used Original Birth parts/top mounts or is it worth just going with Genuine? :)

How much are the OB ones?

OEM are only about £25 a corner from memory...

OB's are 23.56 a piece and the Geniune's are 26.02 incl VAT...

I'm personally not bothered about price but if anyone has experience... might be a deciding factor (Y)

I personally would go OEM, but make sure you get the updated part number ones - they have been redesigned three times and the part numbers differ ;)

The latest EVO items are made from three layers of plastic/rubber compound and seem to last better..  Well, I've had the fronts changed at 6000 miles, so maybe not THAT much better :)
