Post updated, with more information

It's less than a month to go now, to the largest gathering of Italian Cars that takes place in the UK. Now in its 29th year, this is your last chance to experience Brooklands before a major development takes place on site (panic not, it is to restore more of the historic buildings and part of the old race track, nothing more sinister than that!).

This year's event takes place on Saturday 2nd May

Although I've been in dialogue with Phil Ward, the event organiser, so he knows we are coming (mob-handed!), I've not yet had the full-blown press release that he usually sends out.  I am repeating (with minor updates) what was said last year, as most of it is equally valid for 2015:

Quote
Over the last 29 years, the Italian Car Day at Brooklands (run by Ginger Beer Promotions) has become established as the UK’s premier event for owners and admirers of Italian cars.

The great thing about the Italian Car Day is that you never know exactly what you will see, but it is always spectacular – and there are inevitably some intriguing surprises. Rarely do you find such obscure and exotic Italian machinery, even at the most exclusive (and expensive) static events. Yet at Brooklands, the most fantastic cars are not only running, but running at speed – up the test hill and, often, on the adjacent Mercedes-Benz World test track. And visitors can get closer to the action than at almost any event, anywhere in the world.

Discussions are still going on to make sure that there will be a mix of some very special cars that have not been seen at this event before and some "treats" which will make a welcome return. Among those in the latter category are this duo:

First, visitors will see and hear an Isotta-Fraschini-engined monster in action, powered by a staggering 27-litre Isotta Fraschini V12 engine from a Caproni – an Italian heavy bomber. The aero-engined leviathan, widely known as ‘il drago ruggente’ (the roaring dragon), is built on a 1924 Delage chassis and, thanks to owner Glenn Billqvist, will be making the journey from Sweden for the Brooklands Italian Car Day. For a preview of the sight and sound (and smoke!), click onto http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLmqpTs4afg

Secondly, and a world away from ‘il drago’, Brooklands will also be once again welcoming the Ferrari 212 F1 raced by Dorino Serafini at the 1951 Syracuse Grand Prix in Sicily (it finished in second place). The car was of enormous interest at the time because of its 2500cc V12 engine and De Dion rear end, demonstrating just how advanced – and varied – were Enzo’s Grand Prix plans.

Among the countless other attractions are the car clubs and registers that have their own dedicated display areas: expect to see everything from Ferrari supercars to quirky little Fiats, plus Alfas, Maseratis, Lamborghinis and a vast range of more obscure marques, from Abarth, Bizzarrini and De Tomaso, to Innocenti, Moretti and Siata.

Meanwhile, visitors arriving in any Italian car, be it a Fiat or a Ferrari, will be able to park in the areas dedicated to the relevant marque, and thus become part of the show.

Finally, of course, there’s the historically fascinating Brooklands Museum itself. For so many reasons, it’s a day not to be missed.

Admission prices
Adults: £13 advance, £16 on the day
Seniors: £12 advance, £15 on the day
Children: (aged 5-16 inclusive) £5.50 advance, £6.50 on the day
Family: £35 advance, £40 on the day
Under-5s free
Advance ticket sales: www.brooklandsmuseum.com

A limited number of places will be available to test out your skills (and your car) on the famous Test Hill, and there just maybe slots for the lunchtime track parades. More details on the event's website.

Last year this was the largest gathering of Abarth cars of the year, with over 70 different ones present.

Every effort is made to group cars together by marque, but this can only be done if each Club can declare a couple of weeks before the event how many cars they are expecting. We did not get it right last year, as a lot of people made a last minute decision to attend, so I did not ask for anything like a big enough space (with the evidence to suggest that we would fill it!). Compounding the problem, many people panicked and turned up at ridiculously early o'clock to try to ensure that they did not get orphaned into another part of the site. Whilst I appreciate that a few people will be forced to make a last minute decision on whether to come or not, most people will be planning now, so please help out by declaring that you intend to come

So I can give Phil an indication of numbers, please post below if you are planning to come.
