Meets & Events / Surrey To West Wittering Run - Sat 22nd Aug 2015
« on: May 29, 2015, 09:06:05 PM »
So, after the very successful and fun London To Brighton Run, how about this;

A long scenic country drive with lots of twisty roads, as well as exceptionally long straights, from Mercedes Benz World down to West Wittering Beach, followed by a BBQ.

Ive driven down to west wittering loads and the route is really amazing, a quick play on google maps to change it slightly for more driving pleasure will take us about 2h15, so in reality 3h15 with stops etc.

Im thinking towards the end of summer, july/august?

Whos in?

And please put forward your ideas!

News / Update..
« on: May 14, 2015, 10:15:05 AM »
Firstly, Id like to apologise for not keeping the news area regularly updated, university work along with other commitments mean I have less time to spend on the forum at the moment!

Where We Are Now

So, the club has just passed 330 members! This is really incredible and we never expected to reach such a high number of members.  We are continuing to grow with the help of word of mouth, social media and of-course our club presence at car shows & events.

Our club flags came out really nicely and get displayed at any chance possible, they were very well received by our members as well as Abarth UK, and 2 more flags will be ordered ASAP. Id like to say a special thank you to Ajay and Thames Abarth for kindly sponsoring one of the flags.

A trademark application has been filed for 'Abarth Owners Club'. On the premise that it is accepted, club merchandise will be available via an online store. There will be a large selection of clothing as well as accessories, so there should be something for everyone. We will update you as soon as we know whether the application is accepted.

Attendance for our club events continues to grow. Its nice to see people getting actively involved  and coming along, as well as putting names to faces! We look forward to the events for the coming summer , and hopefully should see a lot of you there!

Club stickers are also our possession. For everyone who has already paid, they will be posted out to you via First Class ASAP. They can also be handed over at any events. The internal window cling stickers are still being looked into. There are always minimum orders of at least 100, sometimes 200. We would like to get a good idea of how many people are interested in purchasing them before we go ahead and order a huge amount!

We have also merged with a group on Facebook formerly known as Abarth Official Owners, who are predominately located in the South East. They have their own events area on the forum to organise local meets, so please go and check it out if you are from around that area!

Whats Next?

The club will continue to grow (hopefully) and more events will be added. We are working on adding more dealers to our network, as well as expanding forum partners. More content will be added to our main website, and we may start an online monthly newsletter, as well as a daily blog, yet this is TBC.

We are still very much on Abarth UK's radar, and will continue to work with them to help the club grow, as well as organise AOC / Abarth UK events and days out.

We hope to grow our social media side of things too. Our instagram account is proving successful, with just under 600 followers. We aim to hit 1000 followers by the end of summer. If you havent already, please give us a follow @abarthownersclub

The Facebook page and group is also doing well, you can find it by searching Abarth Owners Club. Please give us a like!

We are also looking into partnering with some clubs outside of the UK. It would be great to have the club go international, with separate areas for

How Can You Help?

Being an active member on the forum and attending events where possible is always a great help. Letting fellow Abarth Enthusiasts know about the club is also a great way to help us grow. If you havent already, check out any polls running on the forum so we can accurately gauge numbers and opinions. You can also let your local dealers know about us, and get them to get in contact with info@abarthownersclub.com if they are interested in being part of our network!

Thank You!

Finally, a big thank you to all our members for being part of the club and helping us get to where we are today. The efforts of Colin & Will are also massively appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you all at our up coming events!

Merchandise / Internal Window Cling Stickers
« on: April 29, 2015, 11:30:52 AM »
How many people would purchase the internal window stickers? Ones that have no adhesive, and can be moved around as much as you like. They use static to stick to your glass.

We are trying to organise some for the club, but they have very big minimum order amounts so a good idea of how many we can sell is helpful to us!

Thank you.

When the car was ordered, it was made clear that the dealer and their valet team was not to prepare the car in any way, and to leave all protective wrappings on both inside and out. The dealer was very understanding and was happy to oblige!

Thankfully, the cars are built in Solihull, so take a journey from their factory to a storage compound, then from the compound to the dealer via transporter - which means they dont spend too long being exposed to the elements, and rail dust! The car was built on thursday, and arrived at the dealers for collection on tuesday, but was still quite dusty and dirty!

Some photos as it arrived;

Quite dirty as you can see, but nothing too bad. First thing to do was remove all the wrapping. I was expecting to have to use some tar and glue remover for the residue, but very little was left behind.!

I gave the whole car a spray with Auto Finesse Citrus power to start breaking down some of the grime, left it for a few minutes then gave the car a good foaming with AF Avalanche. While it got to work, I went round all the shuts, grills and badges with an AF Hog Hair brush to remove some of the grit and dirt. The door shuts were also cleaned with brushes and AF Citrus Power.

I rinsed the car down, paying extra attention to the shuts and roof, to remove as much dirt as possible before the wash phase. It was done carefully and gently with AF Lather, and a microfibre madness mit.

Once the whole car was washed, I went round the whole car feeling the paint for any overspray. Luckily, as it had only covered a short distance, there was very little, so thankfully claying was not needed! I did however spray the lower portions, wheels , tailgate and bonnet with AF Iron Out first, rinsed off, then again with Oblitarate.

A reasonable amount of iron in the wheels, but I wasnt too worried about focusing on the wheels, as they are being treated to C5 Wheel Armour by our good friends over at Clean and Shiny!

Next up, I debadged the car at the rear, using a hair dryer to slowly heat the badge and glue, and then fishing line to gently cut through. What was left was a nasty super adeshive residue, that required a few hits of Oblitarate, a credit card to help remove and a lot of time and patience, but eventually it was all clear without any signs of marking!

The car was rinsed off once more, before being dried with a Metrovac Car Dryer, and AF Aqua Deluxe, which is absolutely brilliant I must say!

As you can see, the paintwork was already very glossy without any protection!

Next up, the paintwork was lightly polished by hand using the AF Handi Puck with a microfibre pad, and AF Rejuvinate. Rejuvinate is described as a 'Pre Wax Cleanser' with a deep cleaning action, leaving a perfect surface to apply a wax. One panel was treated at a time, before gently buffing off with a plus microfibre towel.

Once removed, it was time to apply the first layer of Auto Finesse Desire wax. It was applied by hand using their waxmate applicator, as thinly as possible. The whole car was waxed, and then left for 10 minutes before buffing off.

As the wax cured, all trim was protected with Gtechniq Permanant Trim Restorer. This keeps everything looking black, repels dirt and also beads up nicely! It was the ideal time to apply it as they were perfectly clean. It is wiped on, before being immediately removed. No photos of application as I had to work quickly!

The exhausts were polished, and then it was time for a break, as Desire needs at least 3 hours between layers.

A sandwich and numerous cups of tea later, a second layer of Desire was applied. This increases the gloss, as well as providing increased durability, and also evening out the wax layer.

As darkness fell, I wiped off the glass, and gave the car one last wipe down.

2 Layers of Desire;

Day 2

The following morning, I started by completely detailing the interior, as well as protecting all leather with Gtechniq L1. A simple spray on wipe off solution, that stops dye transfer, reduces wear and tear and helps keep the leather in tip top condition.

All leather surfaces were first cleaned with Auto Finesse Hide cleaner. It was surprising how dirty the seats were considering they were new; there were greasy marks and odd stains dotted round the car, but nothing that didnt come out! Once they were clean, the L1 was applied.

The mats were also treated with Gtechniq I1 Fabric Guard, which makes them completely waterproof, and helps repel dirt and stains. (Not photographed)

The windows were also wiped down instead, as well as the dash and steering wheel etc. The grand black wood trim was also gently dusted down, then polished with some AF Tripple, which leaves a thin layer of carnuba wax for added gloss.

The gloss black trim (side pillars) was polished using AF Tripple.

All glass will be coated with Gtechniq G1 Glass Sealant, again thanks to Clean and Shiny, so there was no need to polish it!

Tyres were given two coats of AF Satin.

Finally, Auto Finesse Illusion wax was added. This is their show car wax, lasts 2-3 months and adds ridiculous levels of gloss and shine!

And for the finished photos..

Meets & Events / Abarth Harewood Hill Climb - 12th April
« on: April 08, 2015, 01:52:31 PM »
We would like to congregate at the Clemo dealership at (say) Half Eight to Nine O’Clock on the Morning of Sunday 12th April.

There will be a Route Plan to arrive at Harewood Hill for about Noon – with perhaps a stop off on the way . A member of Staff from Abarth Marketing Agencies will be present to help take photos etc for both ours and Abarths Social Media content.

Upon arrival at Harewood Hill participants will be granted Half Price entry into the venue (£5 per person instead of the usual £10) and directed to a designated Abarth parking area.

You will be free to enjoy the spectacle of the event, including the participation of an Abarth 695 Biposto – This is the Public Debut of a UK car in any kind of event of this sort.

Abarth UK will be extending a welcome to all existing customers via the various forums and our Social media Channels.

Some of the questions I have been frequently asked are answered as below:

When is the event?

Sunday 12th April

The Driveout Convoy will leave Clemo Abarth, 183 Bradford Road, Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, BD19 3TT  at about 9.30am – and head out on a prescribed route towards The BARC Harewood Spring National Hillclimb.

Where is the Harewood Hillclimb taking place?

The Harewood Spring National Hillclimb takes place on Sunday 12th April at Harewood Hill Climb, Harewood, Yorkshire, LS17 9LA

How do I get there?

Contact Daniella at Clemo Motors Cleckheaton on 01274 – 863700 to join the Driveout Convoy,

-Or-

Leave the A1 at J45 and take the A659 westwards towards Otley.  Follow the A659 (signed for Harewood House) through Collingham (bear right at the lights).  Harewood Hillclimb is on your righthand side in about 3 miles.

Do I have to join the Driveout convoy

It’ll be fun to go in the convoy, and you’ll arrive in time for the Timed runs, but no – you can go directly to the event if you prefer, Practice runs start from 9.00am.

How Much is it to get in?

The usual entry fee is £10 – but we have arranged a concessionary rate for anyone arriving in an Abarth of £5 per person – you can pay (cash – no cards) on the gate.

Where do I park my Abarth?

You will be directed to the Car Park at the top of the Hill overlooking the track – there will be many other Abarths there too.

What facilities are there?

Speed hillclimbing is a very civilised affair – there are good toilet facilities, and catering including Burgers, Sausage Sandwiches etc – and an Ice Cream Van. Abarth UK will have an Events Rig too.

What is Speed Hillclimbing?

Cars compete against the clock on an uphill tarmac course to achieve the fastest possible time. Cars are separated into various classes dependent upon size, configuration, engine capacity etc.

What is special about Harewood?

BARC's Harewood Hillclimb is the longest speed hillclimb course in mainland UK, hosting 12 events each year including 2 rounds of the prestigious MSA British Hillclimb Championship. The venue offers unrivalled views of high speed motorsport action set against a backdrop of the beautiful Wharfedale valley. Cars compete against the clock on the 1440 metre tarmac track, with the latest single seater racing cars reaching speeds of 130 mph.

Why should we, as Abarth Owners attend this event?

To see the Brand New Abarth 695 Biposto taking part in its 1st ever Competitive Motorsport event!

Abarth has a long tradition of Speed Hillclimbing – with many international records held. Abarth UK used Hillclimbing to launch the new era of Abarth.

Abarth 695 Biposto is latest addition to the Abarth Stable, the World’s Smallest Supercar with 997kg dry weight, 190bhp and 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds, it is perfectly suited to this event with a Dog Ring Gearbox and Mechanical Limited Slip Differential.

Will the Abarth 695 Biposto win?

Unlikely – the car being used is the only one of its kind in the UK, and it has plenty of other duties to perform in the next few days and weeks, the drivers are under strict instructions to keep it on the black stuff, and shiny side up!

Who’s driving the car?

Speed Hillclimbing enables two drivers to share one car – this means that the car will be out on the track between 8 and 10 times during the day. The car is being driven by The National Sales Manager of Abarth UK – Peter Robinson, and the person responsible for the Track Based Demonstration Programme for Abarth 695 Biposto – Fulvio Mussi

Can I get involved in Speed Hillclimbing?

A number of our Abarth customers already Hillclimb their cars

Any of the competitors at the event will be delighted to talk to you about their sport, and how to get involved.

Speed Hillclimbing is one of the most accessible forms of Motorsport. You can – as we are doing – compete in your Standard Road Car. You will need to make some very minor modifications, and invest in some essential safety equipment such as Helmet, Overalls and Gloves. All UK motorsport is governed by the Motorsports Ascociation (MSA), you’ll need to be a member of a recognised club, and hold the necessary MSA licence.

Harewood hold regular School Days where you can get a taster of what it’s like – if we can get sufficient of us together – they might even put a special day on, just for us!

Can I get more information?

The following websites will be of interest;

Abarth UK and the 695 Biposto                  http://www.abarthcars.co.uk/Site/uk/Abarth-695-Biposto

Clemo Motors Cleckheaton                         http://www.clemo.co.uk/

Harewood Speed Hillclimb                           http://www.harewoodhill.com/

Motorsports asscociation                             https://www.msauk.org/

Please let me know whether you will be joining the convoy or making your way there so that I will know not to leave you behind.

Many thanks and look forward to seeing you there.

Regards

Daniella Turner

Reviews / Auto Finesse Tough Coat - Glass
« on: April 02, 2015, 03:22:41 PM »
This is just a quick review of Tough Coat on glass.

I applied it about 5 months ago now, it just sprays onto a dual foam applicator pad, then you just wipe it over the glass, allow to haze then buff off. You can also layer it for added durability and protection.

Its also on the body work and you can kind of see it sheeting the water off. It helps keep the glass clear of water and stops it getting so dirty.

The door pillars have 2 layers of Revive on, which also really repels water and dirt!

The video speaks for itself!

General Chat / My Meeting With Abarth UK...
« on: March 16, 2015, 03:24:28 PM »
Hi All,

On Friday, I had a very lengthy meeting with Gerry Southerington, who heads up Abarth UK!

Luckily for me I live about 20 minutes away from their Head Offices, which are really quite nice!

I went there to discuss Abarth UK and Abarth Owners Club working together, and Abarth recognising us as a legitimate owners club.

We also discussed partnering up for meets and events, as well as new cars, specs and touched on pricing - all of which was confidential between Gerry and myself, so dont ask!

Himself and the team for Abarth absolutely love the website and forum, and think its a really great community we have going here. We discussed in great depth being the official club, and both agreed that right now this wouldnt be beneficial to us.

In a nut shell, there are a huge amount of legalities involved, which would negatively impact the club. We would have to have rules for the forum, meets would suddenly become more difficult to organise and we would also have to become much more heavy handed in our moderation of the forum - as Abarth cant be seen to be allowing any, shall we say not quite politically correct discussions on here, or talks of speeding etc etc.

And I think we will all agree no one wants heavy handed moderation, as this is a place for enthusiasts to come together and enjoy their passion for Abarth. However, Abarth are very aware of us, love that we have so many meets planned and we will perhaps collaborate together - although this is all I a saying for now. Please do not come asking when where and what will be happening!

We also discussed the topic of merchandise. He was kindly passed it over to the legal department who are going to try and work something out for us, as they like us promoting the brand but of course I have to respect their copy rights and trade marks. As soon as I know more about it, I will let everyone know.

I will also be getting more Abarth dealers involved in the forum, and try to arrange meets organised by ourselves as well as the dealers. I also aim to have some group benefits for us from dealers, such as discounted merchandise and perhaps reduced servicing fees, but again this is something I have to work out between myself and the dealers, I will let you know how it goes.

Finally, Abarth will be at Brooklands in May, and AOC will be involved with their stand and car display. It will also be a good time for us to really show off the club and entice more members to join us. We should have some Abarth Owners Club sail flags to display , and fingers crossed merchandise will be sorted by then, but I cant promise this!

Id also like to thank Will & Colin for their continued support to the club, and effort into organising events and meets. And a big thank you to all the members involved on here, as none of it would be possible without you!

I hope you continue to use the forum and find it useful, helpful and entertaining!

Bertie
