Hi all,

Recently got rid of my 595 & picked up a 2009 Abarth Punto Grande, all stock, no mods & has 98K on the clock, I’m loving this car to be honest I think this is better than the 595 or at least the 595 I had for two years.

I picked this up for what I think is a real good price but it had a couple of issues, all but one are now fixed but the last one is the major one.

The dashboard cluster does not work which is a huge issue when driving but it’s not completely dead, the lights, time & mileage show up on the cluster but everything else is dead, no RPM, no speedo, no fuel or temperature. I will say that everything works, i.e. brake lights, turn signals, high beam, etc but they don’t show up.

I’ve just got in from replacing the cluster to a new one & have changed & checked over a good few fuses but have come up with nothing .

Has anyone more experienced with the Punto have any ideas on what to do next ?

I’m thinking of replacing the battery & cleaning up the terminals & replacing more fuses but I’m coming to an end of ideas.

I've given up waiving or nodding to other people in my area in any Abarth car's now.

I think I've had one guy who was happy to see me in another blue 595 & waive back like a mad guy coming off the ferry into Plymouth & then I've had a unnamed person who is active on here really rub me the wrong way after waiving at them in traffic.

There is a massive increase in 595's in the area I live in the last two to three months I'd never think that I would see so many, there was maybe three or four about when I first picked mine up a good few months ago.

Its a shame their are so many stone faced missable Abarth owner's in my area right now.

Ah great thanks guys,

I picked up some more sandpaper yesterday so once I've finished with that I will go & hopefully pick up a pen from Halfords & this will be off my mind.

General Chat / Touch Up Pen For Alloys ? Is It A Thing ?
« on: December 10, 2016, 10:35:24 AM »
Does anyone know if you can get touch up pens or replacement paint for alloy wheels ?

I fell in a pothole a scraped my front drivers side wheel while driving back home in storm like weather at midnight & it is eating me inside as my Abarth isn't even three months old yet.

I'm in the process of sanding it down myself as luckily it is not very deep now its more of a light top layer scratch of it lip of the alloy right where the tyre ends.

Anyway is this something maybe a dealer sells or I am gonna have to do it by eye & try to match paint myself ?

I have thought about getting a new alloy but it would be about £200 for the single then I thought about going to a local alloy centre for them to fill it.

I thought I'd ask on here first before I make any rash moves.

Was in Plymouth again as usual, saw a red 595 come up behind me at the lights by the bombed out church next to the ever so popular job centre building.

We checked out each others cars at the light then I waived first then the guy waived back at me. Ive seen some many more Abarth's since owning mine & other owners always been friendly & always wave & flash lights back.

Found I didn't get that half as much in my Mini as they are dime a dozen now.

That was so annoying, I just typed out a big reply & my stupid Mac jumped & refreshed my page & I Lost it all. Not cool Mac.

Now to remember what I just typed.

Thanks for all the info & replies.

It's good to know if I feel like giving it some sometimes I am safe to do so. Still feels so weird to me being able to jump on it after warming it up, I still wait about ten minutes into driving before getting exciting. As this is my first turbo car I'm taking precaution on warm ups & cool downs after being on it.

One other question I had is will it do, not any damage to say, but is it not worth doing small trips in a turbo car. Such as driving maybe three minutes to the shop & back ?

I always walk down as I can throw a stone from my door to the door of my local but my parents seem to take their car which annoys me as its so close. I thought that doing quick trips like that could effect turbo engines as the oils are staying cold & not getting warm & then being turned off & back on again would be trouble.

Back to topic.

Its such a basic thing but I like have an engine temp gauge as all my other have never had one which has annoyed me as all my cars have been new from the factory & have all been no older than 2010.

It seems like such a weird item but to me its something I really wanted. When it comes to cars I have bad OCD.

I have a big cleaning & detailing gear under my boot floor that has four or five bottles of stuff, cloth's & all fluids. I can't drive my cars if there is bird poo or even leafs on my car. My friend's always laugh at my weird trigger but it gives them time to smoke outside & I will be dead cold in the drivers seat before they smoke in my 595.

On a similar note my father picked up a new Nissan Juke Diesel about five days ago & drove straight to the motorway & was ripping it up the motorway at 110MPH :O I don't think I would do that on the first day of a new car, I'm just glad we don't share car's.

Im missing some stuff out that I wrote the first time but I cannot remember.

General Chat / 595 Spare Key ?
« on: October 28, 2016, 09:04:32 PM »
Hello all,

Just a quick question about the spare key.

As much as I like using the bigger key with the 'switch blade' as I call it, I do find it rather heavy with all my other key's & gimmicks on my key chain.

Sometimes I like using the  old basic key as I had a Mini for six years I never had a 'normal' key, I only had that weird Mini style round key that I called the Oreo.

But discovered the other day that while the spare key will start the car, mine does not lock or unlock the doors to the car so I would have to carry both keys.

Is this normal ?

Or do I have an issue with my key barrel's ?

Any feedback will be great.

Saw & followed a red 595 in Plymouth across Laira bridge & up to the traffic lights in Elburton. I waived at them & I think once he figured out I was also an Abarth he waived back which was nice. My first Abarth owner's acknowledgment :)

The day I picked up my Abarth I parked next to a red Abarth in Plymouth in the car park behind Water stone's bookshop.

I saw a women walk down the car park past the book shop who looked at my car & then she walked past & got into her red Abarth which makes sense now.

This was maybe five or six days ago.

Every time I see a Fiat 500 out now I always look harder to see if its an 595 or not now. Sometimes its hard to tell.

I have no idea how to upload photo's on here at the moment. Hopefully figure it out soon so I can put a couple out.

I gotta say after having this about a week or so now I would take an 595 over a Cooper S every time now.

I always said that the Cooper S GP was my dream car, even though its still cheap compered to other dream cars I don't think I'd ever own one, but this 595 easily takes it's place. I'd love to drive the Competizione now just to see how much more power they have.

I'm still yet to go over 4000RPM in mine right now as I still feel like I'm not 100% comfortable in giving it a rip just now, maybe in a month or so.

I'd love to go to a meet but I am down in Devon just past Plymouth & don't know if anything happens this far down though, now I have a car worth showing off I'd love to go to some meets even just for modified cars or Abarth in general.

After all my issues with dates, times & cars themselves I finally have my 595 Custom in blue.

I picked it up on the 30th of September at 1:50PM & can say that after all the issues I've had it has all been worth it. I guess the wait from getting an old model to now getting the current brand new model was worth it for me, I love the middle touch screen system & playing music is so much easier without having to plug in cables & find somewhere to place my phone in reach of the wires.

I also got a few extra bits thrown in for free just for any troubles endured which are black Abarth side stripes & black mirror caps & a full set of floor mats with a full tank of petrol also which is great.

I've only had three drives so far & have driven maybe 60 miles all in but cannot wait to go out tomorrow even if it's just going out to get some food in for the week coming.

After driving the BMW Mini for 6 years this has been very different & has taken me a good few drives & some hours to set it up & just get used to the driving position but I feel like I'm all over that now & feel like I've had this car for months now. I'm still parking this like an estate car though so I really need to shake this habit as soon as I can.

My spec is just the base model, I didn't spec anything onto it yet but may change my mind later down the road. The seats are so comfortable for my bad back & I love the stock exhaust note & how mine burbles & pops is so awesome.

One question I asked is about running in the engine & was told that these engines do not need running in at all & are good to go from the first mile. This is something that I've never heard of it ever encountered, is this the normal procedure? I driving it now like I am running it in just to be safe & really to still get used to it & get a feel for the gear ratio & when & where boost hits & how much builds up.

One thing I keep forgetting is that this one do not have the back windows tinted yet & that it must be awkward when I forget this & am staring at the people behind me in traffic or at lights.

This is definitely the car of my dreams that (not going too personal) after a pretty bad past few years has really boosted me up & made me want to go out again & go for drives again like I used to.

Hopefully this is the start of great things to come.

Thanks all for the replies & stories.

I have no idea where my next nearest Abarth dealer would be located, it is something I am going to look into after typing this.

The dealer called me back a couple of nights ago but I was inclined to talk to them so my mother talked with them instead as she has also been apart of this ongoing fun, she has been calling & talking with people in Italy at the Abarth offices & also at the Abarth main car building factory as she is allot better at finding out info & getting to talk to the right people than I am.

I am heading back down to the Abarth dealer tomorrow late morning as I think I've talked myself into staying.

I looked at the Mini Cooper S on their website & built one on their config page but was just not feeling it.

The trouble is I do really want an Abarth, but now I'm going to lose out on allot of the options that I wanted as part of the Turismo & I would have to put more money down to get them onto the Custom.

Myself I believe that the issue is coming from the dealer as do others in my family & friends. Abarth Italy are telling me that there is no issues at their end.

Their is a third party involved which I have been with for over six years & never had a problem with are sending me paperwork & talking to me telling me the problems are with the dealer also.

I also spoke to the manager of the local dealership who had no idea what was going on with myself & told me in a round of sort of way that the person I ordered the cars with had messed up big time on all three of my orders & now the person in question would not speak to me at all, my guess is they got pulled up by the manager & are embarrassed over the whole situation.
