Well Guys very shortly its going to be so long from me - The Abarth after 12 months of great fun is making the young Journey down south for a part-ex in 2 weeks time.

I've really loved owning it and doing a few cosmetic mods - I got really close to going Comp this Summer or Even dare I say it Biposto .

You might think the purchase is failed due to me selling on after 12 months but not a bit of it we've loved every moment of it and reminded me how much fun owning a warm/hot hatch can be.

In the end the lack of a dealer network up here in the North east of Scotland and travelling down to Edinburgh for an Abarth Service in the less than impressive surroundings of Abarth Edinburgh /KIA/ Fiat  service centre really killed the dream. I think the brand has a bright future  and I envy those of you down south have specialist dealers and specialists you can go to - but up here thats just not the case. Up here it truly did feel like buying a white good which is a shame the car deserves better.

So the TMC Box never happened, the button to order the trackway exhaust from Black parts will remain forever un pressed.

But got a good trade in for it against  another Hot hatch .. all to be revealed at a later date but you won't like it.

Great Forum I've enjoyed it even if I've not been the most prolific of posters... been too busy driving it.

A lot more than the plan ... It was supposed to be 3-4K a year as a 3rd car ... The thing is it keeps escaping off the driveway ...

Great Review- Interesting thoughts on the S1 as its the only thing I was considering instead of a Competizone when the time comes for my 500 to go. Mine was bought for days when the journey was to short to warm through the engine in my other car. And I'm now totally addicted to the Abarth - love the way it sings along and frankly baffles owners of German metalwork .!

Got to be honest not a fan - it's so slow moving and to use a hook line from a film which is so tied up with the rival manufacturer ... Not brilliant . I presume it's part of the build up to the Facelift reveal. I think the brand could have done much better.

Some of the comments on Facebook are pretty amusing ... Do people still believe that kind of stuff .

General Chat / Pug 208 GTI
« on: February 19, 2016, 07:05:56 PM »
Anyone else driven one - whilst I decide whether to stick with my 140, try and get one of the pre reg Competizones going or hang on for the facelift -I thought I better try the Pug 208 GTI as Evo  always describe it as being more Capable than the Abarth.

I took out a pre owned one today from the local Peugeot dealer today - I like the way it looks it has a nice interior but I found it a big disappointment- sounds very bland and although it cruises brilliantly - I found it difficult to exploit the performance gear box has a long throw and it's not as immediate on the turbo as the Abarth .

Left with the feeling that although it might be a good track car in Anniversary guise that it would never be as much fun as an Abarth on a B road.

Interested to hear any thoughts or experiences

Looked ok but 37k ... 7k more than an RS Focus .... Wow ,

Interesting issue I found us although the flat door panels look cool they actually rob a little elbow room .

Really like the idea of A Biposto and just sat in a 695 Record - the problem I have is the performance gains over the standard car are just simply not enough to justify the increase and I'm not certain about residuals in the space of 12 months there have been two editions already . for me the sweet sport is the 180 comp. although I've sat in a Biposto but not a Comp to compare it with.

I don't think the comparison with Porsche GT stacks up as they are also bought as Investments as new they tend to move ever upwards if you can get one.,

Anyone know if the seats are broadly the same?

Hopefully the Facelift will come in Modena Yellow in Comp spec and I will have my perfect Abarth.

quite a long list so I've put it in a couple of Groups

Sports Cars

MX-5 Phoenix 1.8 SE 2002-2004
Z4 3.0  2010-12
Z4M Roadster  2012-14
911 997 Targa 4S  2012- Present

Hot and Warm Hatches

Fiat Cinq Sporting 1998-200
306 XSI -2001-2002
VW Mk V Golf GTI  2005 -07
Abarth 500 - 2014 to prent

4X4s
Landrover Defender 90 XS 2008-2009
Landrover Discovery 2008-2011
Range Rover Sport HSE 20011-14
Nissan Qashqai 1.6 4x4 - 2014- Present

As others have said despite having owned and own some other performance cars the Abarth is just great fun - a car you take the long way round whilst also being very practical one or two up.

Went for the Abarth as Ive always liked the idea of the brand , always liked small Italian performance cars - got close a number of times to buying an Alfa Romeo 147 .. looked at Minis but then bought an Abarth without driving one or sitting in one- very good decision i just love it!

So- I've not had chance to get on here very much over the last couple of Months - but I'd thought Id give an update.

Still loving the car and its off for its 2nd Year Service at Abarth Edinburgh tomorrow - slightly disappointed that they don't have a demo Abarth 595 180 demo in at the moment as it would of been good to have seen one as its certainly on the Radar for 2017 .

so in terms of the Mods the only thing to report is the gear knob has been replaced with a Steel Abarth Competizone one - the red one in the earlier photos looked great but wasn't a very secure fitting - relying on grub screws to keep it tight - it required frequent tightening as it vibrated loose - not a success so has been changed out.

Hopefully the OEM part will be much more secure.

I really enjoy this car drove it today and it always puts a smile on my face - free reving and chuckable - looking forward to spring weather to enjoy it some more .

Looks like the factory Huayra? Very nice  :P

Correct coming out of the gates for a lunch time test,  other than the Aventador SV - I've managed to see the main Hypercars this year P1, 918, LaFerrari  and the Huayra which is a lovely colour - took them months to get the shade they wanted for the factory car.
