Just a heads up that there is a new map upgrade out.

No - it's got the name of the car instead.

Had mine MOT'd last month. Coming up to 3 yrs old with 6,156 miles on the clock (it's an auto).

All the emission parameters were well within spec, except fast idle CO at 0.19% where the max allowed is 0.2% - very close!
Odd, because the natural idle reading was 0.04% where the max is 0.3%.

I suspect that an engine remap would sort this out, but if it should fail next year I will ask them to repeat the test in Sport Mode.

I really don't expect to be forced off the road because of emissions. I can't see it being affected by the increasing number of city emission zones either -  it would be odd if just one make and model was picked on.

PS - another thought. Get it MOT'd at an Abarth/Fiat  dealers - they can't afford to have lots of Spiders failing!

Abarth 124 / Plaque!
« on: April 01, 2021, 07:11:00 PM »
I was disappointed that the car I ended up with didn't have an Officine Abarth numbered plaque. So I made one myself.
Also fitted gas lifts for the bonnet - only £39 from Amazon.

Abarth 124 / Re: Problems with map upgrade -cloning the Nav card
« on: March 05, 2021, 11:49:14 PM »
CD Pond on the American site 124spider.org has just posted extremely detailed instructions for cloning the Nav card under Windows.

It doesn't need any special software - it uses the built-in XCOPY command.

I'm going to order a new SD card!

UPDATE

I've just followed the procedure and it works perfectly.

The new card updated OK and works fine in the car.

There are some digital rights management files hidden in a part of the SD card which isn't accessed by copying in a computer.

It ***may*** be possible to transfer these files to a bigger card by cloning the card, but it isn't clear whether the cloning software accesses the hidden away files either - so it could be a bit of a workup only to be done as a last resort if fiat/mazda don't fix the problem.

Did my valve today.
Car just coming up to 3 yrs with 6K on the clock.

At first I didn't think I would be able to budge the valve - absolutely solid.
Finally started it moving, but it took about 30 minutes of wiggling and adding oil before it was loose enough for the spring return to work.

I will give it another wiggle and oil wen the weather warms up and hopefully that will keep it going through the summer.

Windows 10 here.

From what I have picked up elsewhere -

1  There were problems with the American upgrade rollout (which was fixed pretty quickly)
2   It is Mazda that has to sort the problem out.

So long as they fix it before the lockdown ends ....

Not just me then!

Annoying because there have been lots of changes to roads recently - cycle lanes, pedestrianisation and rat runs being closed off.

Problem is, when I go to select European only (no Russian), then I get a server error and can't get any further.

Have you tried it?

There was a map upgrade in January, but I haven't been able to update my SD card.
The card is too small to take both European and Russian upgrades - when I go to "select region" (to download only the Euro map) I get a load of server errors.
(The same procedure worked fine for the November update).

Anyone else getting this problem?

Sorry - I didn't think to take photos.

Don't buy too much! I bought 12 sheets, but 8 would have done the job (about £10 worth).

No need to cover every square cm, but make sure gaps between the material are random. If you are super neat and make everything symmetrical you risk new resonances being formed.

Hit a panel with your knuckle. If it goes PinK! then it needs a pad - after fitting the pad it shout give a dull thud.

All seems to be a bit hit-and miss.
I ordered mine last October and it arrived in 3 or 4 weeks.

Abarth 124 / A quieter drive

I fitted sound deadening pads round the boot this afternoon (Dodo from ebay).
The result is terrific - the road noise from behind me is almost completely eliminated.
The noise of the exhaust is very slightly reduced, but still sounds good inside the car.

This "mod" is going to make my long trips down to Devon much more pleasant!
