Abarth 124 / Re: A ROUGH GUIDE TO BUYING / OWNING AN ABARTH 124 SPIDER
« on: February 15, 2020, 04:17:24 PM »
Really good summary. They are just a great, fun car at any price. Not the fastest, not the best but great fun and I would say more fun most of the time than something that is more powerful and 'grown up' as you can access what you have more easily, and  the balance of power and handling can make any road drive exciting. Its a very good sportscar in the MG/MX5 type tradition with a step up in performance. Well suited to people who enjoy planning a journey, set off to miss the traffic and take the twistiest route wherever they go.
I suspect a lot of people who have brought one might have felt obliged to look at because they are good, but won't really have wanted an MX5. They would be more excited by the prospect of or might even have considered a used Lotus Elise or even Alfa 4C  over buying a new Abarth, neither the default sportscar choice for most. While the Abarth isn't as focused or as compromised as an everyday choice as the Lotus or Alfa, its got a more raw feel and sound than something like a stock Boxster or Z4. I really liked the fact it's about as basic and light as modern cars get with manual roof, manually adjustable seats and only weighs a tonne.  All of these things make it feel as special and fun to own and drive as something with far greater  running costs . The fact that a lot of people will ask what it is is also quite nice.
It was hard to get the spec. you wanted when they were new. Mines grey without the heritage pack, and I had the seats swapped out for black over the red before I took delivery. I didn''t want new but with five colours heritage pack making ten body options and two seat colours and me wanting the vis pack and manual I gave up after a year waiting for a second hand one to turn up, by which time they were really keen to get them off the forecourts! If it's for you it's worth looking out for and travelling to get what you want because the more you drive it, the happier you'll be. It's a car that makes you smile every time you use it.  :)

Abarth 124 / Re: Roof
« on: February 14, 2020, 08:18:05 PM »
Hi Had the same problem. On the second visit to the dealer after it had come loose again they replaced the roof  which surprised me, but it transpires it's a known problem. Be aware there are tensioners in the old roof that are needed for the new one, so if it doesn't sit right after fitting, its not because its been packed in a box. Its because the dealer doesn't know that so worth telling them if they haven't done one before.  :)

Abarth 124 / Fiat 124 Reversing Camera Fitted
« on: May 30, 2019, 04:03:06 PM »
Has anyone had the reversing camera fitted as per the Fiat 124 Lusso Plus? I PX'd my Fiat 124 for the Abarth, and great car though it was, its the only thing I miss about it! I'm interested in having it done on the Abarth if it can be integrated with the standard screen, electrics etc. so any recommendations for who can do it, idea of costs etc. much appreciated. Thanks

Abarth 124 / New Roof Anyone?
« on: May 30, 2019, 03:57:09 PM »
I had the headlining drop down from just above the rear window a few weeks ago. Garage stuck it up, but it came down again not long after. Went back and with no prompting, they told me it needed a new roof - last thing I expected to hear! Speaking to the guy when I dropped it off this morning he said they hadn't done any others themselves, but  his impression was other garages have been changing them.  Anyone else had this problem, or had any problems once their new roof has been fitted?

Abarth 124 / Re: Bad news or good?
« on: May 30, 2019, 03:31:50 PM »
No problem for me, brought it to keep after considering literally everything else with two seats, a drop top and up to what I paid when I brought mine new. Figured the low tax, fuel economy and running costs together with the modern fun drive and hopefully reliability over the time I plan to own it would offset the deprecition I would take, that I wouldn't have had if I'd brought an Elise, Boxster, 350z etc. Time will tell! Like the fact you don't see many now, so less on the road is great, just a shame for anyone else who wants one and gets what they're about. Just dropped mine off for some warrenty work, and if the prices they are advertising on the forecourt are what you end up paying, anyone who wants one now should jump in. From what I can see its an Abarth for Fiat 124/MX 5 money -  great cars but no contest at that price IMHO  :)

Abarth 124 / Turning Radio Off
« on: December 21, 2018, 05:27:59 PM »
Can the radio actually be turned off, or is it always on and just muted? The dealer had no more luck than me, but it would be good to know for sure
Thanks

Introductions / New 124 Owner
« on: December 20, 2018, 01:43:00 PM »
Just saying hello.
Had my 124 for a couple of months now, and part exchanged my Fiat 124 to get it.
These cars are great and I'm looking forward to seeing what people are doing with them.
Mines won't be out much before the spring , but I'm already looking at the events for 2019!
