General Chat / Pug 208 GTI
« on: February 19, 2016, 07:05:56 PM »
Anyone else driven one - whilst I decide whether to stick with my 140, try and get one of the pre reg Competizones going or hang on for the facelift -I thought I better try the Pug 208 GTI as Evo  always describe it as being more Capable than the Abarth.

I took out a pre owned one today from the local Peugeot dealer today - I like the way it looks it has a nice interior but I found it a big disappointment- sounds very bland and although it cruises brilliantly - I found it difficult to exploit the performance gear box has a long throw and it's not as immediate on the turbo as the Abarth .

Left with the feeling that although it might be a good track car in Anniversary guise that it would never be as much fun as an Abarth on a B road.

Interested to hear any thoughts or experiences

General Chat / Stick or twist
« on: September 02, 2015, 07:59:23 AM »
Never thought about this so early in car ownership - but I bought the A500 custom with an eye for a bit of light modding and to use for some short trips. Trouble is my wife and I have fallen in love with the concept of a The Abarth.

We use it much more often than we planned and it's probably become the most used car on the drive this summer. I have done the inexpensive mods but from now on. It starts getting to the more pricey mods - Exhausts, Shocks .

The question is whether to continue to invest in the 2014 Custom we have or twist for a pre- reg competizione over the winter months?

I'm sure a few of you have wrestled with a similar question .

Cost to change will be higher than the cost of the mods but when we get two to three years down the road it's more likely that the Comp will have retained more of its value.

I said on another post that I'd returned from a non Abarth road trip to Stuttgart, Modena and the swiss passes- the group was made up of ex Z4 owners who in most cases have switched to Porsches with two of us also being Abarth drivers- sorry if the post seems porsche centric but the text was written for the Porsche owners club if anyone wishes to get some details regarding routes and hotels or museums visited pleas feel free to contact me- these roads would suit the Abarth perfectly.  We were very lucky to have Tom Scott along with us who is a Pro photographer so can take a good photo and does quite a bit of Automotive Commissions, words by Jack Fordyce

car club and forum camaraderie was a strong catalyst in creating this touring group, as some transitioned into Porsche ownership from much loved BMW Z4s.

A potential 2,500 mile route through Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Italy was agreed. Cars consisted of a 991 50th Anniversary, a 997 Targa 4S, a 997 Carrera S, a 981 Boxster S and a Z4M roadster. Drivers include Scots, English based in Scotland, English surnamed Scott, and Scots and Dutch based in England, making for a bar room joke bereft of a good punch line, with plenty banter potential.

Baden Baden & Stuttgart Factory Tour
Arriving via Eurostar or ferry to Amsterdam, meeting up for an autobahn blast to Baden Baden, coincided with a birthday so as you do we “took the waters”.

A Porsche Factory Tour required a 5-30am start for a dawn assault on “The Route 500” with a photo stop at Mumelsee where pro photographer Tom, put us amateurs to shame with some fabulously composed and exposed shots. The route climbs steeply over near deserted roads, round high speed, tightening bends in magical early morning light before an equally challenging descent.

Navigational debate followed, assisted by four versions of OEM Porsche Sat Nav, a Tom Tom, a Garmin and a well-thumbed route map with detail only visible to the very young. We arrived in Stuttgart in good time though, scanning the underground car park for anything interesting.

The factory tour (cameras and phones prohibited) provides almost hands-on insight, urged along by our very knowledgeable guide. Witnessing the marriage between chassis, bodywork and engine was fascinating, as was a privileged peek at a collection of GT3 RS models. Task timing within the production line was admirably precise, with workers seeming remarkably stress free.

Hopefully scoring brownie points, three of us sported Porsche GB Club tops and with Club Cards ready, secured free museum entry - a nice touch. The afternoon was spent at the Museum, gift shop and restaurant where we could each do our own thing, largely involving rubbing noses against expensive glass.

A 550km drive to Savognin, near St.Moritz next, detouring to allow an eastwards group drive of the Susten Pass. A Swiss tunnel cacophony of sports exhausts merited several repeat performances.

Whilst light rain affected the Susten, an amusing lay-bye liaison with a large pair of furry marmots ensued, before another spirited session, keeping a healthy pace despite conditions.

Braving the mountain’s drizzly elements, suitably attired in T-shirt, shorts and plimsolls, Tom captured some fabulous stills of the red Carrera S, some feeling guilty for rushing him.

A thrilling spar with the 991 50th on roads south from Tiefencastel to Savognin, highlighted the Boxster’s stunning composure and grip levels, assisted by LSD and PTV options,  a fabulous end to a long day, ensuring the Cube Hotel’s cold beer tasted even sweeter. Cool digs these, with a petrol-head barman and the option to ride your mountain bike from a third floor room, down the ramped stairwell, straight out the lobby - sadly no MTBs on this trip.

Two father and son teams leave now for an all-day dash to Calais.  The Z4M driving the entire route, roof down, including autobahns – respect.

Your Abarth / Zermatt's 2014 500 Abarth
« on: August 24, 2015, 04:46:00 PM »
Had a bit of time on a rainy day to put first long post on my 2014 Abarth base model in Offciana red , car is very standard at the moment other than a fe bits that i have done over the last couple of days . Car had 5k on the clock when we picked it up and is in good order but  was not up to the standard i like to keep my cars so I'm pretty busy with it.

on day of collection -

Spruce up

I've also given it a quick detail which included - snow foaming it,  dod-juice lime prime, poor boys black hole then topped off with Werkstatt Acyrlic sealant. not had chance to have any photos of the results and its digging down outside at the moment ! - today i have cleaned the pedals - not sure what the best product for this is but ive used some diluted wheel cleaner and they are looking much better. I am going to get my DA back from a friend and give it a going over this autumn to take out some of the marring in the paint from an incorrect washing method being used on it .

Little Mods that help the heart grow fonder

anyway today i got on with a few detail modifications

Some sill covers purchased  from Partsworld - 49 quid and very happy with the results

My favourite sticker from i say ding-dong replacing the Arnie Clark Sticker

TMC gear Knob and Gater  fitted the other week .....

the one installed was quite worn after only 5k mileage is that normal ?

New Key Cover and Key-fob - yes i know mines not a Tributo but its only on the key ring

I also fitted a 500 LED light in the main light - really recommend this one if you' ve not done it nice fun feature and quite easy to fit.

Incoming - I have some carbon fibre wing mirror caps  which i will fit when the weather is better

The Future -After that i will be turning my attentions to the exhaust  and either bluespark or TMC - what is everyones thoughts on which brake upgrade to do if the power is increased to around 170bhp - pads and fluid ?

Over the winter i plan to keep on the 16" but running Winter tyres before fitting 17"  wheels and tyres next spring - not sure what yet - perhaps essences.

This car has really got under our skin and is being used much more often than had been planned when we got it - I'm an active member of a few forums and a local owners club for another marque but keen to get out in the Fiat when time permits and get it out on some classic scottish roads .

Introductions / Hi from Aberdeenshire
« on: August 20, 2015, 06:50:51 PM »
We have been the proud owner of an Officiana Red  1.4 135  500 on a 2014 plate, it stock as stock can be other than a gear knob change .

I am so pleased with it - I'm a keen member of another couple of forums over the years having had several Z4s over the years. The Zeds have now gone for a glorified beetle and the Abarth has become a very favoured companion - my wife who took no it terser in its purchase has become addicted to it.

Next couple of months are going to be about - which exhaust, TMC or Bluespark,  what brake upgrade and which winter tyres!

I plan to get the DA out on the car come the autumn - I've done some work on it but it needs some swirls taken out of the paint.

Looks a good forum
