Those are projector lights..not xenons

Not seen them turned on on an abarth, but all the projector lights I've seen on other makes have been like candles (shit)

That's what I thought too

The new style (poly-elliptic as they call them) headlights are projector lens halogen lights - if you have xenons on a facelift car, they are the same units as they have always been.

After every wash...spend ages drying to find that over the course of the day, the mirrors inner swimming pool empties down both doors leaving streaks..

I know exactly what you mean - That always used to annoy me.  I find that by repeatedly pressing on the plastic mirror base where it mounts onto the door, in the area where the water trail starts from, you can encourage the trapped water to come out.  Holding a damp drying towel or cloth over the area while you do this also helps to draw out the water.

Anyway - let's get this back on topic - has anyone done anything to their car lately?  ::)

I looked at mine & thought I really must give it a good clean, after the Goodwood mud bath at the weekend.  :-[

Perfect first car;

Would be perfect with the spec but I can't get insured on anything more than the 135hp!

I was going to say that, depending on your age, you would have to consider the insurance cost, but you have obviously already looked into that.  When I tried to change my insurance over from a 160hp Turismo to a 180 Comp, the company I was insured with would not cover a 180 Comp.  I don't know why as they are not really that different but I had to find a new insurer.

It was good to see the 124 "in the flesh" and in action going up the hill.
I think it is a much better looking car than the Mazda MX5.

I didn't realise the stripes on the facelift 595 were so different to the current ones but the Abarth lettering seems to stand out more on the new ones.

The theme for this year was 100 years of BMW & the main feature at the front of Goodwood House was as impressive as ever.

Anyone going to Goodwood Festival of Speed this year?
I was hoping to go on the Saturday but Sat & Sun were sold out by the time I looked at tickets so I bought a ticket for Friday.  After the ticket arrived, I had a call from the local Abarth dealership, offering me free tickets for Thursday so it will be an early start at the showroom for coffee & bacon rolls, followed by an Abarth convoy to Goodwood!  Well it was an offer I couldn't refuse and you need more than one day there to see everything.

The book and the onboard computer states every 18000 but I dont recommend this!!!

I do mostly motorway miles and service every 10k to 12k with a possible oil change in the middle.

This servicing & oil change business always seems to cause a lot of confusion.  The way I understand it (and I may be wrong) is that you need an oil change every 9000 miles on a 134/140 hp 500/595 and every 6000 miles on a 160/180/essesse model so you will be on your 2nd or 3rd oil change (depending on model) by the time you get to the 18000 mile service.  This is only referring to mileage - you have to take into consideration months/years if a fairly low mileage is covered.

Only the Comp 180 has Brembo and Garret turbo. When looking at those there's not a lot to worry about as they are likely to be retails sold and under warranty.

In the series 4, the Turismo (165hp) also comes with the GT1446 , was this not the case with the previous car?

Up to now, the Turismo (160 hp) has had the same IHI turbo as the 135/140hp models.

Showroom / Re: Waterless wash?
« on: June 21, 2016, 12:10:36 AM »
It would be ok for a "quick once-over" if the car is almost clean or to remove water marks after it has rained & dried, but I wouldn't want to use it if there is any significant dirt or road grime on the car as there is a good chance of causing minor scratches & swirl marks on the paintwork.  I have used Quick Detailer sprays with a nice soft micro fibre cloth if my car has been recently washed & is almost spotless, otherwise it would have to be a proper wash with  a lambs wool mitt etc.

Hello and welcome - it's the best gang to be in.

Post some pics of the 180 Comp when you can - they always go down well on here.

That reminds me, I must sort out some pics of mine !

I agree with most users, I dont lie the retro stereo, I want to ask the dealer to change it to the touch screen that are used in the new fiat 500 but they say they cant because it's connected to the ECU :(  Cant they unplug it from the ecu? How do you guys do it?

More to the point, they would have to replace the entire dashboard (fascia & top panel ) as the aperture is bigger for the facelift stereo.

Questions / Will old polishing compounds still work?
« on: June 08, 2016, 01:42:13 AM »
I've got some Menzerna polishing compounds to use with a DA polisher and the bottles indicate a shelf life of 2 years but I have probably had them for 4 or 5 years.  Does anyone know if they would still be usable after this length of time?
