You kinda can but it's a pain, it's easier to get the adjusters out and do it that way. Will be having a go at it in the morning. Either raising it up slightly or maybe taking the bump stops out altogether.

Yes it's low :) but no nothing rubs, just thump thud thump thud over bumps.

;D Love adjustable suspension, especially if you can adjust the damping too. What are you running on your car?

Cheap and cheerful FK coilovers, for the price can't fault them. Hard as hell but the big question is how long will they last, only time will tel.

Yesterday I sealed the Abarth Winter Kit - I realised just before I started that my Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour bottle had broken and leaked everywhere so had to revert to using C2 instead...

Today I fitted them - pictures to come tomorrow as I finished by torch light :(

From memory there's a reasonable amount of machining needed to get them to fit on a 500, beyond just wobble bolts :(

Brand spanking new. £550 delivered.

Snapped them up! More here and the seller has white and black too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271755709270?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&clk_rvr_id=778599469185&rmvSB=true

Looks like a combo of the esseesse wheels being cheaper in Italy (likely filtering out of the dealer network now the 595 has replaced the esseesse)  plus the Pound is a really good rate against the EUro at the mo is really good for us!
Title: Re: What Did You Do To Your Car Today?
Post by: RC on February 11, 2015, 01:06:43 PM
I think I'll wait a month or so to fit them (at least util the silt is off the roads) but maybe not as late as summer.

I'll wax 'em up with AF wax!

Ok so I have money saved up for a holiday, do I blow it on these wheels!

Thats such a bargain!!!!!!

Yeah get a 2 or 3 layers of the Mint Rims on the face aswell as the barrel :)

Did they come with the centre caps?

Bertie
Title: Re: What Did You Do To Your Car Today?
Post by: RC on February 11, 2015, 01:14:10 PM
Yup a real bargain. I think they're stock being sold off so once they're gone they may well be gone!

Came with red centre caps - I didn't think they would, but that's another £20+ saved!

They're at work (on my lunch at home at the mo) even though I only work around the corner I'll be nipping over later to pick them up.

Happy boy  :D

So worth the money and some. Car drives so much better now. Have the box on setting C and the car pulls so much better in 2nd 3rd and 4th. How it should of been standard.

Very pleased with the box and a bargain at £120

Painted the airbox, used super grip primer then black exterior satin. The decals I made myself which was time consuming and tricky but the end result was worth it

I fitted my new seatbelt pads and made a couple of wooden wheel support frames for tomorrows mods. (Mud flaps and light bulb upgrade).
The big one will take all four wheels stacked in pairs and the smaller  one is for wheel cleaning. I've made them so that I can also use them for our Skoda estate wheels as well. Nothing made me wince as much as seeing someone lay an alloy wheel on a concrete drive to clean it!

Froze my bits off yesterday. Taz was up on axle stands with her wheels off so I could fit the RallyflapZ and upgrade the light bulbs.
I've gone against my prejudice against Philips, and went for the Xtreme Vision H1 and H7 bulbs. My first impressions are very favourable. The PIAA's are fantastic DRL's and SWMBO agreed that yesterdays work was worth it.
We're both very happy with the mud flaps. Initially we weren't too sure about how the gloss black of the flap and the white of the logo would look. But at the end of the day it turned out just how we had imagined.
I'm glad of herself being home with me as it was alternating between dry and cold, rain and cold, and sleet! Without her and constant cups of tea I reckon I'd have died out there!

Fitting LED Interior Bulbs. And fitted the TMC Tuning Box, and WOW!! I've always been skeptical of tuning boxes, and now I wish I got one ages ago.

Did you get it mounted ok Tom?

They do make quite a difference to the power delivery, setting do you have it in?

I find 7 to be the best!

If you change the setting remember and disconnect the eart of the battery to reset the box so it knows the setting has been changed   ;)

Yeap, all mounted now  :D

It came with it on 7, so left it on that to see how it goes and it feels fantastic. Never though it would make that much difference.

The other day when I was fitting my mud-flaps, I noticed that every wheel bolt was bone dry. Of course I couldn't find my Copperslip anywhere.
I decided to tidy up my garage, ad there on the bench under half a ton of crap was the grease. So Sunday afternoon was spent taking each bolt out in turn, lightly lubing it with the aforementioned anti seize compound and re-torquing them all. I'll swear that they were rammed on with a windy gun. That's why I always take my wheels off and transport them to the tyre fitters in the back of my Octavia Estate. (Apart from the fact that I wouldn't trust he usual breed of tyre fitting monkey to lift my Abarth without wrecking it!

Ive got the mitt too but not used it yet. Did you just use it with the detailer as lubricant or did you use it whilst the car had the foam on it?

I use a wash bucket with clean water and shampoo plus the detailer as I go along

Thanks. So do I.
The deflectors went in really quickly, with no problems. The repeaters were a right pain to get out. The originals must have been a tight push fit before the paint went on! Don't try it unless you fancy a challenge.

Ok this wasn't done today but on Tuesday. Now I'm not a boy racer who you can hear approaching because of the amount of bass coming from his car but when I ordered my 595 I forgot to include the interscope sound system which came as standard on my old SS so this is how I missed it.

Unfortunately the standard sound system is awful and I do like my music from time to time so I had to do something about it. I went to my local car audio center and weighed up my options and decided to go for this new alpine compact sub.

To say this thing packs a punch is an understatement, for its size it has staggered me and blows the interscope underseat sub to pieces. It really has changed my system into an absolute beast.

The sub cost me £200 fitted which is £50 cheaper than the interscope, the only downside is a little boot space has been lost but it is easily removed by simply unplugging and lifting out.

I have the red center caps that came with the car but wan't to do something different..  There will be some nice new ones on before too long, don't worry ;D

As for the gator, well it's quite stiff at the moment...  Oooh errr! :o

I like it more than the tarmac styled item, makes the interior feel like a more upmarket place to be, even with one small little change :)

More yesterday tbh but took her to donington :) chickened out on taking her on the track - she is my baby after all!

Took the racing school A500 around and it was class. The speed you carry through the corners was enough to surprise a Ferrari 350 and a lambo Diablo as I cut past them on the inside. If you are ever up that way I suggest you go give it a go. The instructor was great, really helped me get the most out of it :)

Which one did you go for, and how is it performing? Having just read DimmyV's rant about the uninsured pondlife who drove into him the thought of Dash cams came up between SWMBO and myself. It seems to be a bit of a minefield as to what is and what is not worth considering. I was looking at Amazon and saw this. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00S0JSOQU/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B00S0JSOQU&linkCode=as2&tag=supe0e5-21&linkId=RSGGIFCUIU2KGE4Q

Yep, it's every 6000 miles, but wanted to change after the first 1000 'running in' miles.  It didn't need to be done; just personal preference.   :)

Cambelt change
Oil and filter
Bmc filter cleaned
Coolant topped up
All the visual checks etc
Sideskirt was abit loose and bonded back on.

All for £385(With £100 vouchers).

All i can say is research are a great dealership.Gavin the manager is very knowledgable, doesnt rush you and very approachable. The rest of the guys also very chatty.Top service research :).

I got a valuation on my car......they said atleast 7.5k for a10 plate with 13000 miles on it which i think is actually preety good :)

After visiting Johnsons Abarth in Solihull yesterday to find out about servicing my car. I ended up buying official Abarth mats, a keyring, a bag and a boot tidy. Fitting the mats and boot tidy this morning and put on the top mount caps for the suspension. I also found my spare key hidden in the hole in front of the handbrake, which surprised me.

Finally some good weather!! Time to get to work.

Finally changed the worn out gear knob for a new one, changed the pedals for the Punto Evo versions, fixed a loose trim panel in the drivers footwell, and hand stitched the shift gaiter to have red stitching. So every productive few days.

Next on the list is to replace the Abarth side strips, and renew all the badges and that should be most of the restoration work done.

sammi mate, sent  you a pm but not sure if you read it.

Research simply bonded my sideskirt back on, it was coming off at the same spot as yours, so no need to get a whole new sideskirt. Its so far still stuck on.

so let me get this right, you've got your car back but is it fixed or do you have to go back because of the damaged sideskirt? also.....platts said to me years ago "they can come in damaged so we  check them over before we ring you, if its broken they order a new one".

Just need to upload a few pics - was planning a full on detail today but it's done nothing but rain all day and I'm back at work tomorrow :(

Mudflaps are the Rallyflapz ones from ebay. seen a few peeps on the Abarth forums reccomend them so I gave them a whirl. They look great - a wee bit boy racer perhaps but they do make the car look squarer at the bottom and the 500s don't half kick up a load of dirt from the tyres!

Fitted my Novitec lowering springs (rears...fronts are on the to do list) and spacers - 16mm rear, 5mm front

sitting nice at the rear now; it's taken another 9 or 10mm off the height I got from my AHM's and the spacers really help the wheel fill the arch

wheels will be fitted on Monday  :D

The little one was currently wearing a few coats of zaino sealant z2 .I aint waxed a car in a few years as I moved from autoglym hd wax (great wax)to the sealant route (zaino). I loved the look of sealant on white but I was keen to try a wax again so I put 2 coats of dodo juice white soft wax on.I think it adds abit more gloss to it but maby leaves a slight warm tinge to it.Its difficult to judge but Im happy with the look.

have coveted those for ages but I understand they are a right pain to fit? As I am completely cack-handed, it would involve going cap in hand to husband. Who is still b*tching about having had to change the DRL's 2 years ago (got the dealer to change them on the new car during PDI  ;)  - am not just a hatrack, lol) .

I have ordered 2 sizes off eBay - M16 90mm and 160mm (in black) like Paul suggested, the 90mm may be just too short but I'll soon find out. I'll post a pic as soon as I install it

yes Slyvano it's a towing strap, just fancied doing something to the front as I'm not sure the Maxton splitter will be practical for me

Very nice Tim! I NEED one of those, do you have the bolt for fixing on - where from?

I have ordered 2 sizes off eBay - M16 90mm and 160mm (in black) like Paul suggested, the 90mm may be just too short but I'll soon find out. I'll post a pic as soon as I install it

yes Slyvano it's a towing strap, just fancied doing something to the front as I'm not sure the Maxton splitter will be practical for me

Thanks Tim!

What about your rear?  :o  ;D

leaving the rear alone, it's perfect as it is  ::)

Like the yellow tints on the fogs too!  8)

Started the long process of trying to get my car fixed. Lipscomb service team still haven't called back since yesterday, Research are being superb, just waiting to see if it's going up there or if it will go into Abarth Battersea on Tuesday.

It looks more and more like I might have lost a head gasket, as it's started to drink the coolant fluid. :(

Only £10 mate

@Ads, thanks very much. On the subject or indicators bulbs; I had a go at mine as I've got some Diadem pearl effect ones to fit but I can't get the bulb fixing out - I'm guessing it twists like the DRL's? But which way as I can't seem to budge it at all!

Where did you get your silver indicator bulbs from? They look so much better..

Hi Ads

Seen this on eBay and it isn't expensive. Well might purchase one of this soon. Cheers Ads. I waxed so much car that on car wash people said by my work they have to put sunglasses looking at my car how shiny are my alloy wheels. It was only normal wash and wax spray.

I have been experimenting recently with Plasti dip(all external chrome), hydrodipping, 500 stickers(change from scorpions) and ezlip colours. I have have already been told once to get a job, but what is retirement for, just wish I had a garage.
I digress, you guys on facebook would have seen these, but for those who are not.
As I believe black betty is fast enough for me I have gone down the cosmetic route to individualise her, I like the look but each to there own.

Its only just gone on, mine is not lowered, so I fitted it for look rather than protection. As ezlip is a softer texture it was easier to fit. It bends easier and it does tear, so until I drive over something I cant say.(but i expect it will be tested at chasewater this sunday when Salvo has us parking on uneven ground). As to whether it stays on is yet to be tested.

Fish, how are you finding the clutch on the X500? Driven one, couldn't drive it smoothly for love nor money. Terribly hard to gauge the biting point...
Title: Re: What Did You Do To Your Car Today?
Post by: Fish on October 02, 2015, 09:33:55 PM
Only had a couple of hours, mostly stuck in traffic. I'm guessing it's not a cable but a hydraulic unit. In normal 'ECO' no problem, but twist that little dial to performance and yeap finding that smooth point became almost impossible to find.

Not a bad car IMO, seats are way better than the standard 595's.

I can see the attraction; and it's nice-looking too, IMO; certainly not as fugly as a Juke. Well we might end up with one as a business run-around for hubs, so I'd better get used to that clutch :-(

Your interior is amazing Rui! Love it! And that gear linkage... OMG   8) wow is all i can say! does it work as good as it looks?

My install today seems totally insignificant - MTEC short shifter. A Brilliant piece and something i can afford!
Bit of a mare to install being buried in the engine bay on top of the gear box, no install pictures as i was eager to try it out as soon as! Install itself is pretty straight forward and simple to follow instructions that came with the adaptor. It was delivered to my door in 4 days from ordering online direct from MTEC. So basically it bolts onto your gear selector bracket deep in the engine bay, you have to totally remove the battery tray, unplug ECU. 2 x M8 bolts need to be removed from selector, these bolts hold the counter weight to the selector. A real bitch to undo as you're working in the area of a shoebox and worse still difficult to see whats going on! Scratched forearms and wrists is not a good look. So bolts off (took me over an hour). MTEC bracket onto selector bracket plus counter weight back on - 2x new M8 bolts were so easy to put back on. Gear selector is supported with a bit of wood. Then back with the battery tray, ECU, wiring back in their position. Took me over 3 hours, i would think a good mechanic would do it in an hour or less.

So in the car ignition on and of course everything needs to be set for me but i go out after just setting the clock. First impressions are a much more positive feeling, snicking into gear really nicely. Much shorter throw as they have described - its all good so far. I had only time for a quick test drive but very happy with the new feeling, several times i had already changed gear as the throw was shorter but i didn't think it was engaged into gear. Selecting Reverse seems to be much better too. Hopefully i will be able to have a proper drive tomorrow.  :D

Would strongly recommend everyone to fit one of these!

Crikey! That looks awesome ;D I now feel very inadequate as my A500 is shamefully filthy! Our sugar beet season is in full swing here and, not being far from British Sugar's refinery at Cantley, the roads (son says we don't have roads, just medieval cart tracks that someone has thrown the odd bit of tarmac at! :() round here are an absolute quagmire! I really don't like these dark winter days.  Roll on spring!

Taken my best white wheels off for the winter, last year i left a set on and the effects Of salt and grit were pretty obvious by the end of winter.
So, after a break of 19 months I'm running with  the original style 17 inch diamond cut wheels. The tyres should just about see me through to the spring even though two of them were on the car from new.
I think I'll put proper winter tyres on this set of wheels for the future

Hi Guys

A couple of you have posted about fitting the winter wheels / tyres here, I have mine ready and will be fitting them next weekend.

When discussing this with workmates I get some funny looks and general comments about it not being a worthwhile expense. I reckon as we live in the Pennines, we should get value for money from ours :D

What is the general feeling about winter tyres, is there a real difference in grip and does handling in the dry suffer in any way?

Cheers

Andy

I posted this on Facebook earlier when someone asked the same :)

The compound of summer tyres is not designed to deal with temperatures of less than 10 degrees (varies between tyre).

The compound used in winter tyres is designed to be effective at lower temperatures, plus the tread patterns are developed to disperse water far more efficiently.

You get a massive improvement in general stopping distances with winter tyres in colder conditions than you would with a summer tyre.

People winge about cost but that's another misconception. Yes you've got to buy another set of rubber, but the winter tyres will wear far slower than your summer rubber would. You can make a set of winters last for 20k before you consider changing

The 'snow' element is the bit that puts the general public off winter tyres because we don't have enough to warrant it, but we have lots of freezing mornings and cold standing water.

I was a sceptical until a set of winters saved me the first time, since I won't be without a set ;D

Will, that is the best case yet that I've heard for winter tyres,I may even pick some up :)
Winter Tyres-They only need to save you once.
Would make a pretty good strap line for an advertising campaign👍

Thanks for the reply Will, not a user of Faceache so would never have read your post there :)

I agree that they only need to save you once.

My question about the use of winter tyres is kind of created by the fact that in Italy, it is law that from the 15th Nov to the 15th Apr, your car must either be fitted with winter tyres or have a set of snow chains in the boot. Understandable in the North of the country maybe, but central and south have a generally moderate (to damn hot) climate.

How easy is it to fit the replacement front whisker etc please Picard, I'm thinking about doing this also.  Thanks.

it depends on how much work you want to do and if you want to keep the original whisker afterwards..

if you wish to save the original whisker , I would recommend removing the front bumper,

however I didn't , so I just removed the 4 screws on the front on the engine panel , to get may hand behind the bumper and worked it that way, snapped off the lugs with star washers on and saved,  undid the 1 nut holding the centre badge on, refit was just a matter of pushing the new whisker back on being careful refitting the star washers and re-bolt the centre badge.

the rear badge, just gently warm(best to) then use an old credit card or dental floss to remove the badge , clean the area and refit the new.

the boot handle was as easy, remove the boot lining, then unclip the electric connecter, undo the 4 bolts and remove, re fit is the reverse.

hope this helps.
Mark

Would have been much cheaper to have the existing ones wrapped with carbon wrap,I've had all my badges/whisker/boot handle/rear badge, door handles, wrapped in black, its withstood many pressure washes and looks great, cost £200 all in,plus it's easy to go back to original or change it and it protects the parts keeping them clean and new,you won't notice the difference on small exterior parts unless someone really anal gets up really close to inspect it.
Also you can save on the £130 spent on parts and the hassle of fitting the new ones.

Thanks CB.  I'm hoping to recoup some of the cost by selling the old items on fleabay.  I may go down the wrapping route for the door handles though as they look like a right faff to get off and back on. Was it the 3M 1080 wrap you used?  Do you have any pics of the finished items?  Cheers.

We had our Diavolo Due professionally detailed over yesterday and today. He looks sh*t hot, the depth of reflection is fantastic, can't praise the guy who did it enough.

Managed to drive back from Altrincham to Bacup without a sniff of rain, we get 200 mars from home, a spit of rain and a little shite at the side of the road throws a tennis ball at us :-[

Putin might have been pissed off yesterday, but the retribution I was about to wreak on the little git would not have been describable.....

Fortunately for both of us, the traffic was that bad, I couldn't get out of the car, and the ball just left a wet mark which has washed off.

Will be putting the winters on at the weekend.

Installed my PIAA DRL's.  What a pain in the ass they are!  Would be much easier with the wheels off and a ramp.  On the street and by the kerb was certainly not ideal.  All done now though, and only moderately grazed knuckles.  Great success!!  ;D

"We" spent the whole day together,I've been without little squirt for a while, nearly changed the turbo but left it as was for now(I'm glad I did as the ATM has made a big difference)
Changed the rear lights, wanted to do day times and high beam but my hands and wheels are jointly too big to complete the task(
Did manage to wash/polish and Hoover I in between outbursts of rain though ;D

I put on the winter wheels.

Having fitted 215/40/15s to the 17" 10 spoke wheels, I will warn others looking down this route that the tyre pressure indicator goes off.

Don't panic.

Go into the menu system and reset the tyre sensor. It is OK.

I'm not surprised the tyre pressure sensors went off  ;D  i do assume they are 17" tyres not 15  ::)

And where is this reset the tyres in the menu system? Do i have it?

the tyre reset is on the new models for definite with the new LCD colour display within the settings menu, no idea where it is on the older models.

Just fitted Osram Night Breaker Unlimited H7 & H1. My God it's a pain fitting the H1 but once you know what you are doing releasing the metal clips it wasn't too bad. Hopefully they perform well but for £34 it was probably a worthy upgrade. Good news is they don't have that fake xenon glow to them.

Washed the white petal alloys on our Abarth. Must be the worst combo to keep clean. :( Luckily my hands go through the spokes . ;D They do look amazing when clean though. Also polished the chrome tips on our Monza for the first time so because of that got a bit of polish on the rear black diffuser >:( so had to put bumper treatment on that too. ;D haven't driven it since  ??? it seems the rear wheels get dirtier than the front

Tar removal can be done with either dedicated tar removal products (Tardis being the main one that comes to mind) or just use some margarine.

Black shows the swirls the most, but white shows every grain of dirt. Tough choices, silver/grey every time for me.

that's why I resize my images using - http://www.picresize.com/

just press browse, upload and select the resolution you want. I always use best for quality, then click resize. Save the image to web once the image has been resized, copy the link into your URL and copy image location - this is then the link you need to paste in between the coding ([img]...[img])

simples  ;)

Hi all,
not the right place to introduce myself I know, but it will save me having to make two posts☺. I am Ade and I have just bought a basic new 595 in white.  I got it for a knock down price and it came with 17ins wheels at no extra cost. It will fit  nicely in with the other vehicles I have, a Lotus Elan M100 and a Ducato long wheel base camper van. All are highly modified, but in a tasteful way.
Now what did I do to my Abarth today. To match the other vehicles I have, I had the wheels stripped and powder coated in gloss back, for what I think is a good price of £220 and they look really good. Eventually it will be either remapped, or have a tuner box fitted, I have had both in the past, the camper van as a tuner box right now, which I am extremely chuffed with, but I would like some opinion's as to which is best for the Abarth. I found the tuner box to be far superior to a remap on the camper, but it is a tried and tested box and it is on diesel, it was a five minutes fit.
Well that's my first post, look forward to meeting some of you in the future.

Ade

Took Dorries for a trip to the Doctors today to fix an annoying dicky brake light switch. So a run to Italia Tech just outside Mansfield way was in order. Dr Matt was kind enough to hang around to provide his docterin skills and though my visit took 45 minutes only five of them was related to the sickly switch gear. The rest was spent having an interesting chat with the owner operator of one of the most friendly and knowledgeable fellows I have met in a car hospital. Also got eyes on Nicos baby which is unwell currently and I just missed the open front surgery on the turbo. Ace chap, very keen on the Pasta Pocket Rockets and all round good egg. Here is a snap of Dorrie post surgery.

Who is looking forward to the spring to get to work on their Abarth?!  Here is what I’ve got planned for this spring:

- Send wheels for refurb (in white).  Refit with wheel sealant and spacers.  At the same time: Give calipers a clean; inspect and jet wash arches.

- Oil and filter change.  At the same time:  Inspect floor and dna subframe brace for damage; Jetwash floor; Inspect/clean scuttle drains; Inspect/clean door drains; Inspect exhaust manifold nuts for torque (if access allows).

- Clean engine bay – currently a bit dusty and random splashes of coolant here and there!

- Full detail, including sort various stone chips; fit dna decals (still undecided).

- Interior wet valet.

- Fit Maxton front splitter.

- Fit dna subframe lateral tie rod kit.

- Fit forge turbo actuator (or let pro alfa do it).  At the same time: Inspect exhaust manifold nuts for torque (if not already done).

- Remap at Pro-alfa.

I'd like to do it all as close as possible together time wise.  But in reality it prob. won't happen like that!

As I am making some changes to my Abarth I treated myself to a new Competizione dark trim kit today. New whisker, badges, boot handle and door handles. Bagged a pretty good deal at £180! More changes to follow.

Was that from Molinka on eBay Ads?

I got my parts from her too, but she wasn't offering the door handles at the time.  theyll look great on your car mate, what colour(s) are you going for?

What's the difference with your new diffuser Chris?

Well I'm working on a vinyl colour that matches the gold fleck in the Record Grey paint. It proving frustrating but nearly there. She is currently offering a set of door handles on eBay for £80 and you know she'll take an offer.

Yeah I saw that.  They're covers only though, and I already have a full o/s handle assembly so going to get the n/s one from PartsWorld and replace the lot.

Chris, that is badass!!  Did you get the carbon one?
Title: Re: What Did You Do To Your Car Today?
Post by: CB on March 11, 2016, 10:34:23 PM
Thanks,it's pretty cool,I didn't want carbon as it would not work with the carbon exhaust tips,I've base coated it with the Anthracite used on the S3 diffusers then added Matt clearcoat,I thought this would work well with the black and the carbon,it's almost identical to the diffuser/grill colour on the comp.

Title: Re: What Did You Do To Your Car Today?

I'm pretty much done aesthetically, next up I'm forging the engine, upping the Rev limiter to 7200rpm and upping boost to 1.7bar,currently running at 1.3bar,that will be it for this year.
I'm looking forward to seeing your wheels, springs and brakes,I bet you can't wait!
I'm also looking forward to your remap results,Chris got over 250ftlbs out of the IHI on a friends car,the IHI is such a cool turbo,it may be small but it runs on race spec bearings with zero lag,Chris from Pro Alfa is not sure what he enjoys more his 300bhp beast(I've been out out in it,it's insane)or one of his mapped IHI,s as they are just so much fun😎

Haha, good point!  Should be able to offset the wheel cost by selling the old ones too.  Do yo know of any good deals to be had?  Cheapest I've found them at is £213 a wheel on eBay.

Not wishing to compete with the serious modifiers on here (apparently there are bits under the bonnet that can be changed) I've done an interior trim overhaul. Ok, so it's a pair of seatbelt pads but we're rather taken by them. Courtesy of Greg at the_tuning_shop_team on eBay. Was happy to create me this one-off pair so long as copyright was not infringed. Real leather. Choice of stitch colour. Much nicer IMO than the average plastic ones. Tell him Andy sent you... A

Its not too bad.  I did take a lot of photos so will post up a how-to guide.

There is a clip holding the top edge of the bumper flush to the front wing, one clip on each side of the car (called 'bumper guides' I think).  Each of these bumper guides has three locking tabs on it, I broke the middle one of the three tabs on the left side  :-\    To replace the bumper guides is a bit of a pain as they are riveted to the front wings.  So I would have to drill out the rivets and fit a new bumper guide with bolts and nyloc nuts.  The headlight would need to come out to gain access to fit said nuts and bolts.  It would also need aligning perfectly to make sure the bumper sits straight.  So its a bit of a faff to replace these if they get broken completely.  Two out of three should still be ok so I'm going to leave it!

By the way I want to replace the headlights, I assume you need to remove the front bumper for this or can you get away and do it from within the engine bay?

Yes, just remove the front bumper and everything is in front of you. I removed the standard horn, which is on the passenger side and fitted these.

Nice plate. I expect it'll only be the  local plod that would have an issue with the tagline but over 17 million people object to the Euro symbol! Did you order them before the vote? Might have been worth waiting.

That's unfortunate but my comment was tongue in cheek and metaphoric.
My collegue's shares went up although he  is  of the remain group.
Ditto, money makes life more comfortable but the ability to make decisions for one's own country is equally important, no?
There are people that gave their life for freedom two and a half generations ago.

Judging by the fact you have that much to lose in shares, I'm taking it that you don't work in a place where it's 70% polish Romanian and Lithuanian? That is why you wouldn't understand the immigration issues.
Not saying this is true of you, but I have found that anyone with money voted to remain.. And the lower class folk voted to leave as they live in the real world. X

Fitted the new horns.

Now it has a proper Italian style two tone parp instead of the feeble toot of the factory one.  ;D

Dead easy too........

N/S wheel off, arch liner out, fog light out then there's the horn.

Job jobbed.

Nice. I'd like to do this too. Should of done it when bumper was off but forgot!

Yes, cut the wire but long enough to reconnect if needs be.

No errors either.

Basically, 1/2 a dozen screws/bolts to get the arch liner out then 3 star nots holding the fog light in gives you enough room to do the job easy.

I put one horn where the original one was and the other the other side, the bolt holding the original horn was used.

Well worth the effort.

Below are two files, one is of my wifes car that has the same standard horn as the Abarth and the second file is of the twin horns like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Twin-Snail-Car-Air-Horn-Set-Loud-Dual-Two-Tone-Fittings-Truck-Van-Boat-Siren-/152003768423?hash=item2364217067:g:6F0AAOSwBahVeAoH (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Twin-Snail-Car-Air-Horn-Set-Loud-Dual-Two-Tone-Fittings-Truck-Van-Boat-Siren-/152003768423?hash=item2364217067:g:6F0AAOSwBahVeAoH)

Sale agreed as they have given me £8k for mine, just getting confirmation over the new headlights as I don't want the old washer Xenons, I want the new shape Xenons instead; these should be fitted, however the 2 new Comps I've seen have the old washer Xenons not the new rounded triangular shaped inlay design.

Modena Yellow 595 Comp
Performance pack - Mechanical LSD, carbon fibre Sabelts, carbon fibre dash, Supersport wheels, gloss mirror caps & side stripes.
Yellow Brembo kit
7" Entertainment/Sat Nav system
Beats Audio system
Yellow splitter & rear diffuser inlays
...and that very special 'secret' upgrade too

That's what I thought too

The new style (poly-elliptic as they call them) headlights are projector lens halogen lights - if you have xenons on a facelift car, they are the same units as they have always been.

Yes mate, had to remove the door card and also the membrane thing, was a easy job but you may need 2 sets of hands as its a bit fiddly unhooking the door mech while balancing the door car.
Unfortunately its one of those jobs we are all gonna have to do at some point as the part is clearly not up to the task....
good job the part is pretty cheap.

Fitted a Pipercross air filter.

Didn't help that on removing the bolts the extension & socket fell came off my ratchet and dropped down into the engine bay!  :-\  Great cars but with so little spare room under the bonnet if you drop something it's doubtful you'll ever see it again.  ;D

What's the thing inserted in the CD slot?

I washed and clayed mine yesterday, ready to get it machine polished, hopefully next weekend. Took it for a short drive to derust the brakes today and tucked it in the garage again.

Sunday drive out - 500 miles from Lancashire to near Cardiff and back! Early morning blast down the M6/M5 then cut across country for the last hour or so - it is easy to forget how good a quiet motorway can be, after sitting in traffic most of the time if you travel during the week.
Then came back up through Wales, all the way from St. Athan Airfield (it was the Aston Martin Owners Club spring concours meeting at the site of the new Aston Martin Factory) to join the M56 near Chester. Some superb driving roads and fun to be had. A little bit of care needed in the well known biker spots as the unmarked police cars were out to get them on the first warm Sunday of the year.
The 595 ran well - only hitch was the radio packed up on the way back - showing "code error" on the display. So I had to put the top down and listen to the Monza.
A good road trip!

When I put those wheels (17inch) the ride was so much better, think its because they was nearly 4kg lighter each (tourismo)  pot holes and bumps don't shake the car no more haha

Reduced unsprung weight does help indeed in both ride quality and handling.

Getting my normal wheels ready for swapping with the winter ones.

Used a none acidic spray first, washed and rinsed, then Iron Off, tar remover inner as well as outer rims, then Panel Wipe before drying thoroughly and an application of C5 wheel armour.

Have then dressed the tyres.

All the products I use are Gtechniq and really do appear to do what it says on the packaging.

Have put the set back on the rack for now, waiting until the weather properly improves before fitting to the car. Have to say they do look damn good.

A question for anyone reading this. The tar remover states not to use on area's covered with vinyl. How do I clean the tar off the side stripe on my XSR?

Cheers

Andy

First wash of the year.... really! Ok so nice guys at Tesco have given it a couple of rinses but today was the first time to get all the products out of the shed. In fact the outside tap was still turned off inside to protect from the winter frosts. Anyway, spent some time today treating the car to a much needed spring clean in preparation for Bicester. Wash, polish, vacuum, leather cream, wheel clean and wax, tyres dressed. So far spent three hours on it, and will add a sealing coat once the semi final has finished.... a bit of sunshine makes such a difference A

Frustrating day... made another great purchase from The Tuning Shop (eBay) of a replacement gear lever gaiter, to add a bit more red stitching to the XSR. I’d been thinking about it for a while and having seen Ed’s beautiful Comp on Sunday at Bicester Heritage decided to make the swap.

Removing the gear knob is nigh-on impossible  >:( I found the instructions within a thread on ‘isti which implies that the aluminium knob is thread-locked on. I’ve spent too much time this morning, and surrendered some skin, trying to break the bonds. In the end I gave up (unlike me) and went to ATS. A very big fella with vice-like grip had a go... needless to say the darn knob is still stuck fast. So the new gaiter is thrown into the back seat for now. A trip to Abarth is now required to pass the problem to them.

For info (and I may need to post this somewhere else in the forum) the gear lever gaiter is best emoted from the bottom left side first, teasing up the silver ring. Once the half dozen tabs have been released it will lift up. A small cable tie holds the gaiter at the base of the shaft which is easily snipped to release it. With the knob removed the gaiter will then easily slide off. The gaiter is held between the silver ring and a retaining collar inside it, which needs to be carefully separated as the two parts are held together with the weakest of plastic lugs.

I will let you know how I get on with Abarth, unless anyone else has a better 💡 idea. And no suggestions of metal grips; I want to be able to reassemble with the polished aluminium knob unscathed. For now, I’ve put the thing back together again. Did I mention I’m frustrated? A

Just a thought Jennifer. Have you thought about warming up the gear knob with a hair drier? Sometimes these locking compounds can be broken down with a bit of gentle heat.

Hi Taz, that was a thought, having watched some YouTube where a blow lamp was used on some locked on nuts.  not convinced that my dryer would raise the temperature enough. And don’t want to scorch the aluminium with something more aggressive.

A hair dryer should heat it up OK, just a bit slowly. I'd be tempted to use a strap wrench on it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/BOA-11022-Baby-Soft-Grip/dp/B002HMRU34/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524932957&sr=8-1&keywords=strap+wrench+small

I took my new 500 out on a long motorway/b road trip to Oxfordshire and back and it didn’t miss a beat.

Brought it to it's new home after buying it yesterday, and today I've spent all day machine polishing and detailing it with next to no breeze!  :-[

Well worth the effort though, and happy to be back in another Abarth!  8)
